he asks Scrooge for the day off, and Scrooge, out of the kindness of his heart, gives it to him. and hows does Cratchit repay this act of generosity? he shows up late the next day. its this sort of unprofessionalism that may explain why he was getting shit pay to begin with. but oh no, "Scrooge is stingy". well maybe he just wants quality work for quality pay. if Cratchit worked a little hard, he'd make better money. but someone does something nice for you and you turn around and slap them in the face by showing up late? that's why your not getting ahead in life, Bob. seems to me Scrooge didn't need a visit from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, seems like Cratchit needed a visit from the Ghosts of Office Professionalism, Responsibility and Integrity.

Bob Cratchit isn't very smart here. Times are hard, jobs are few and Cratchit needs Scrooge more than Scrooge needs Cratchit and they both know it.

Plus if my son had issues and my boss was rich and I was his basic mule I would be looking for every way to get on his good side instead of playing the "I do everything right but cant get ahead" friend card that men play in relationships

Should have pulled himself up by his bootstraps and got a second job... or a better primary job rather than bitch and moan looking for a handout for his special needs kid.
Get a real job hippy. And cut those sideburns.

I mean some blame should be shifted back to Scrooge. If he didn't change his ways, Cratchet's son wouldn't have grown up, pick up a ukulele and musically haunt our dreams.

Yeah, but think of it this way.
Scrooge, being a hard-hearted miser for years. Even the mere idea of adding more coal to the fire is out of the question, Crachit has to beg and plead to get Christmas Day off and Scrooge begrudgingly agreed. Crachit assumed he was in absolute deep shit for arriving late and assumed the worst. What he got was Scrooge, acting completely out of character. Extremely generous, cheery, laughing, asking Bob about Tiny Tim and how he's doing.... for seemingly no reason whatsoever. To a normal person, you couldn't write this off as some sort of Christmas day epiphany. This would have to be the most terrifying thing Crachit had ever seen up this point... kinda like when you expect your parents to scream at you when you get in trouble, but instead... they're so calm and soft-spoken in their disappointment, you would rather they yell at you.
I had long theorized about that day after work, Crachit.. completely befuddled as to what has come over Scrooge hurries into his house and says, "Get the kids, we have to move immediately. I'm not sure, but I think the old man has lost it. He was so happy and cheery today, it was completely out of character... he knows about us, he knows about Tim. I think he's going to kill us. We have to get out of here!"
