The story of the character could be interesting to touch on. I mean, he lucks into being a war hero, gets assigned to be a delegate, then supports giving Palpatine the power that he eventually uses to create the Empire. A sad, broken Jar-Jar wishing he could redeem himself, but ultimately knowing nothing he did ever would redeem him, that's could be something. I wouldn't want to see it in a movie, as I think they should move away from the Skywalker saga completely, but I'd find it interesting.

I mean, if there's a clear attempt at effort and done in a way that's not just "Hey, look! It's Jar-Jar!", then it could be interesting. Like him or not, he had his place in the prequels and maybe with some tweaks (such as not having George Lucas writing the script), there's potential for a solid character.
Star Wars as a whole, to me at least, should be built around ideas and new concepts. If a director comes in and has a plan for a not-so-popular character, why not? Bottom of the barrel was "I hate sand." and it would take a LOT to surpass it.

I’m all for it. I’ve always had a Bit Of a soft spot for the character. Even if the Darth Jar Jar theory isn’t true, seeing an older Jar Jar, now the leader of the Gungans, coming to terms with the mistakes he made in his youth that directly lead to the rise of the Empire has a lot of drama potential

I thought Jar Jar became a sad clown Post-Jedi.

If anyone could make Jar-Jar work as a character, it's Rian Johnson.
That said, the context of the article made it sound like he was just joking around and wasn't serious about it.

He's directly, personally responsible for the rise of the Empire. Even if you fall on the "Palpatine would have found a way, with or without Jar Jar", Jar Jar's still personally liable for allowing a totalitarian regime to come to pass. No one would ever make him leader of anything.

As long as it involves a long, slow painful death - revisited at points of the film to see his suffering - then I'm all for it.

Sure, I just have to imagine Jar Jar, post Palpatine takeover, being a total social pariah. Has it ever been commented on in any canon, new or old, what exactly became of Naboo, reputation-wise, after their biggest representative pulled a complete takeover

Only bit of post-Episode III Naboo that I’m aware of is Naboo being added to the galactic wide celebration in Return Of the Jedi
