And the band still hasn’t released any more material haha.
Anyway, I was one of the people waiting for this album for YEARS. I remember being in junior high school and there was a rumor the album would finally be out in October or November...in 2000. Indeed it did come out in November EIGHT years later.
Anyway, what made me think of all this is I was going through my MP3s and wanted to make a GNR workout playlist. Really the only song I could find that works for that kind of playlist at all is Shackler’s Revenge. For work out songs I look for stuff that is high adrenaline throughout. Most of the introductions of songs on this album are way too elaborate and over produced to work for that. Or the song in general is just slower and more mellow. By contrast all the other GNR albums have at least 3 to 5 songs that work for that kind of playlist.

Track 3 "Better" - Track 7 "Catcher in the Rye" is as amazing as any five track sequence the band ever put out. All flawless.
Rest of the album doesn't quite measure up to these amazing tracks for me. Always go back to those five though.

its not a bad album, but its also not a mega great album that it was hyped as...I will say anything Buckethead wise is pretty damn killer, and that solo of his on There Was A Time is out of this world and one of my favorite guitar solos ever. It is mega interesting to see Slash play Chinese, Better, This I Love, Catcher In The Rye, Madagascar, There Was A Time, Sorry and Prostitute live.

I got my 14 year old cousin into GNR the year this came out. He was stoked and wanted more after I showed him every album, but I told him that Chinese Democracy was suppose to come out but never did and may never will...then it did. We jammed out (I bought the entire album on I-Tunes) and enjoyed it to Dr. Pepper.
Good times.

There are a couple of tunes on there - 'Better,' 'Street of Dreams,' 'Madagascar' - that I put up with their canon.
The album is definitely overly processed, but I think it actually has a pretty amazing mix because you can hear every single one of the ridiculously recorded tracks on every track.
