Imagine Lawler busting a guitar over Elvis' head. Man, the place would have burned that night.

It shows a lot really about Lawler and Memphis that we can read this and say "Yeah that seems plausible". I think the lack of dressing it up is what really makes it believable.

To be perfectly honest, I wanted this to be a joke post. Like Subject Title: Lawler on how close he came to wrestling Elvis Presley
Then the entire post is: Lawler: Not very

Elvis being a wrestling fan is one of the most believable things I have ever read.

I recall Meltzer debunking this when the book came out, but I may be wrong.

I recall Meltzer debunking this when the book came out, but I may be wrong. I'm wondering how he managed to debunk a few phone calls from the '70s. "Well, um, you know, I was.... I was there. I was there when Lawler was, um, on the, the phone. Well actually... actually, um, you know, I was, uh, crouching in the, the bushes. Outside the window. Lawler never talked to Vernon Presley. To, to... Elvis's father. He never, uh, talked to...you know... Elvis Presley's father, uh... Vernon. But I can tell you that he did, uhhh, well... I don't know if they would want me to, you know, uh...put their name out there. He did have a conversation with someone's father, uh, about a match. I-I-I guess... I mean at this point, I can, um, you know...put it out there. He talked to, um, Andy Kaufman's father, who's name... I can't, uh...was it...no... I guess that, uh, it doesn't... doesn't matter. Andy Kaufman's father. Jerry wanted Andy to, you know. Come in with, with, the uh....uh.... Elvis bit. The one he did in his, um, stage act. I think it would have been, uh, you know, a...a dud. I actually, um... you'll, you'll like this. This-this, uh...story. I missed the rest of the, uh, call because I lost my balance and um, fell, back on a...you know... branch. A branch of the bushes that I was hiding in. And it, it... it ripped a, you know, hole. In my pants..... ... But, uh, no, no, Lawler never spoke to, you know, uh... either of the Presley men." Given the parties involved, nothing about this story sounds implausible.
