The whole thing seemed misguided from the offset and hopefully, they learn for this. Honestly, I'm shocked they backtracked so hard. Not even saying "Well, we'll try again and restructure or whatever" or going through with a slightly different version.

I understand fees with these services. You can't get 100% of your money.
I just think the idea of making the person contributing with money to pay all those fees was a very poor idea.

This was a foolhardy change made without consulting Patrons or Creators, and it's cost a lot of good people a lot of their income. Hopefully the added competition coming their way will keep them from making the same mistakes again in future, and all those that left during this debacle will be able to repledge with more guarantees that they won't be screwed over again.

I've seen a handful of artists on Twitter basically saying they're leaving Patreon altogether after this as its left a bad taste in their mouth.

Like, I do hope for the people who stay on that this doesn't happen again and doesn't threaten their income but when it happens once, it's really hard to regain that trust unless you keep it up. Maybe they do, who knows, but that one incident might be enough. I've heard of a couple of small companies with another launching next year so hopefully that helps them make sure it doesn't happen again.

I got a good friend who just bailed on everything Patron due to this. I'm actually going to stop giving them money through this & just donate via PayPal. Really, it seemed like only the most contemptuous of artists, like Chris-Chan, wholeheartedly supported this plan. Not surprising.

Yeah, I haven't seen one creator come out and say that they were pleased with the idea. Most seem to have said they expected to eb the ones paying the fees. Though one I saw said they might have been more accepting of it had they been told about it before it being thrust upon them. It was a completely backwards and almost no one was ok with it.

This was a really bad idea and I don't understand why they thought anyone would even remotely be tolerant of it.
