And not necessarily the bad kind of selfishness, people can be both friendly and selfish at the same time. Basically, I tend to like songs where women talk about themselves (especially when she does it in a friendly manner), or otherwise put the focus of the song on themselves, their own lived experiences, you get the idea. Sara Bareilles - Love Song: She indicates that she is a songwriter, and sets the parameter of what songs she wishes to write. Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover: The title says it already Taylor Dayne - Don't Rush Me: The word "me" is already in the title, and she is demanding that her potential relationship go at the speed she's comfortable with. Amy Grant - Good For Me: Another "me". And the title should give it away, she sings about how despite their differences, he could still be 'good for' her. If you guys can think of more songs like that, it'd be cool. Thanks

I'd say a number of female rappers achieve that, given how important being assertive and braggadocious is to the hip hop genre.

We belong together by Mariah Carey is incredibly selfish. She gives the guy no reason to come back to her at all.

It's not a very serious song (in fact I'm pretty sure it's satire), but a metal band I love called A Sound of Thunder has a song called "Kill That Bitch", in which the singer is trying to get the man she loves to kill the woman he's already with so they can run away together.

Shouldn’t this thread be at 100 pages already?
The male version of the thread in probably half the time?

Love is Here by the Supremes. Diana sounds like such a pouty (&*& in the speaking parts.

Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
About how she would be a better girlfriend than your current girlfriend.
Meredith Brooks - Bitch
In which Ms. Brooks lists different, sometimes conflicting, aspects of her personality in the chorus.

Though you elaborated, I hate the word selfish for who I'm about to say.
I'd like to direct you to my girl Gwen Stefani. A lot of her lyrics are about romantic relationships (positive and negative), self-esteem and self-image, and other life related things. I love her because she's not afraid to look vulnerable, be happy or admit she's got her issues. She kind of lays it all out there. Return Of Saturn and the b-side compilation Everything In Time (my two favorite No Doubt albums) are the best representations of that, imo.
I find her really relatable.

So long as you take the good with the bad. If you can jam to Don't Speak, I hope you can still feel Hella Good sometimes. (Rocksteady is so damn catchy.)

How about the opposite? Where men are demanding?
No man voice in the song per se, but the person who's sung about in Wishin' and Hopin'. Even Dusty Springfield called the lyrics out for being terribly dated later on.

Even Dusty Springfield called the lyrics out for being terribly dated later on. "Lightnin' Strikes" by Lou Christie is a great way to talk to a woman if you want her to put a cigarette out on your face. "Hey, I am going to cheat on you, but I'll get bored of that after a while, then we can totally get married. For now, though, gotta get my dick wet." Also, insert most any Tom Jones ballad, and not even like Delilah where he's literally a murderer.
