That time of the year again. TNT and TBS begin their Marathon on Sunday. Even if I do have the movie on Blu-Ray I make sure to catch it at least once on TV.

Randy lay there like a slug. It was his only defense.

Been a fan long before it was cool. The sad thing is, I don't remember whether or not I was taken to see it in theaters originally. I have a strong memory of going to see it, but sometimes I mix things up. I do remember being obsessed with the slide scene when TV spots showed it. So...anyone see the musical last night? I only managed a half hour of it, will probably check it on demand in full to do a review. And this will be of interest to fans of the movie as well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDkHULYv0B4

Hey, this place looks familiar! Yep, I toured the very house that was used for exterior shots of the film! The inside looks exactly like it did in the movie, with a large Christmas tree in the living room and (of course) the leg lamp in the window. You can crawl under the sink just like Randy did. Across the street from the house is a small museum with posters and costumes from the film, as well as a gift shop. I knew that Bob Clark played Swede, the Parkers’ neighbor who asks about the leg lamp. But until I went on the tour, I didn’t realize that he’s wearing a Miami Dolphins hat! Obviously, the Dolphins didn’t exist during the movie’s time period. And neither did blue bowling balls, even though Ralphie’s dad gets one as a gift.

If anyone doesn't like this classic, then they can go suck an egg.

I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but I always watched the second showing of the film with my dad and step-grandpa on Christmas. Just the three of us, watching the movie. I may not be very fond of Christmas at my step-grandparents house (Fighting amongst family members, annoying ass cousins) but the food was damn good and the tradition of watching the movie was the only worthwhile thing.

Christmas Vacation is the best christmas movie.
A Christmas Story is good, but I never wanna watch it more than once and usually every other year.

We see this movie at least once after Christmas dinner. Right before we go to the cinema to see another movie.

Is it weird I've really never desired to see the movie? I dunno, I've always been aware of it but when I was a kid or now, it's just really something I have never considered watching. Based on all I've ever seen or heard of it it just feels, I dunno, meanspirited.

Why don’t they ever show a marathon of Bob Clark’s other Christmas classic? Black Christmas.

I can see where it'd come across meanspirited in bits and pieces. Bad shit happens to Ralphie at points, and it it might look like he gets dumped on the whole time, but most of it is childhood injustices that he is overdramatic about, and even those largely work out for the best for him. He also implies some of these problems, he brings on himself on a regular basis, like getting busted for swearing. Still, I think it does a good job of balancing that with effective payoffs and Ralphie's determination getting him through some of the situations.
