This thought popped into my head today. Eddie Guerrero won a Royal Rumble. Granted, it had fewer competitors than a regular Rumble and it was shown for free on television. All that said, do you include him whenever you think of Royal Rumble winners? Or does he get an asterisk?
Personally, I'm surprised WWE never used this as a way to get around the Benoit situation. It wouldn't be incorrect to say Guerrero had a championship match at Wrestlemania XX after winning a Royal Rumble in 2004.

Too bad WWE didn't book Eddie to win the legit Rumble and Benoit to win a Raw Royal Rumble.
How lucky would they be on that one?

When I remember to, though by that logic Jerry Lawler, Hornswoggle, and Owen Hart are Rumble winners.

Was it actually called a Royal Rumble? I always remembered it specifically being referred to as the Smackdown Rumble

If he counts, Chyna counts since she won the Corporate Rumble.
And Kane and Mankind since they won the Tag Team Royal Rumble

Sadly it didn't lead to anything really special so no I can't. Sorry Eddie.

Nah, it was the Smackdown Rumble... if you count that you'd have to count a ton of other battle royals.

Sadly it didn't lead to anything really special so no I can't. Sorry Eddie. That Rumble was to declare a No. 1 contender for Brock Lesnar's WWE Championship at Now Way Out 2004, which Eddie won. If that doesn't count as something special, I don't know what does. By the way, my vote is still No. I'm with other posters that Rumble-type matches not at the Royal Rumble PPV don't count. Not sure yet how I'll feel toward the winner of the Women's Royal Rumble.

Rey Mysterio's Rumble win should count as an Eddie win.

Rey Mysterio's Rumble win should count as an Eddie win. I remember a former forum I used to be in and there was a thread about what wrestler's gravestones should read, and Rey Mysterio's was "I dedicate my death to the memory of Eddie Guerrero." Him doing everything for Eddie killed his push from the get go, like Rey didn't even mattered and every angle he was in while he was champion and challenger was about Eddie not him.

Well here is a thought. Jim Duggan is recognised as the first ever Royal Rumble winner, but it wasn’t at an event named “The Royal Rumble” and there were only 20 participants.

The difference between a Battle Royal and The Royal Rumble is the staggered entrances. To me thats more special than the title shot.

Him doing everything for Eddie killed his push from the get go, like Rey didn't even mattered and every angle he was in while he was champion and challenger was about Eddie not him. What killed him for me was that month he spent jobbing to every monster on the roster as part of JBL's master plan to soften him up. Then he beat JBL who had previously held the title for over a year and it made both of them look terrible and the world title look terrible. Also, I always just figured any battle royal that wasn't at the Royal Rumble was just a battle royal. Though the point about staggered entrances makes sense.

Nick Bockwinkel retroactively wins every rumble for that fire verse.
