Did I miss something? Seems like a just a few weeks ago Gable and Shelton were energetic faces, but now they’re definitely heel. A bit. I think. Maybe?
What happened?

Chad was a young babyfaced kid and Shelton was on his grown man shit. Gable was like, "I'm gonna win matches and get ice cream after the show". Shelton was like, "nah, f*** that. We heelin' it and then heading to the titty bar after the show." Gable was like, "k" and now they are mean.
...I'll be honest, I ain't been watching Smackdown so I don't know what's going on with this act, haha.

They don't have a fun crowd-participation hook.

It just seems sad that it seems that even less people care about Shelton Benjamin now than they did ten years ago.

Everyone on Smackdown is a heel.

I assumed they turned heel when Gable illegally chop blocked one of the Usos outside of the ring during their tag titles match on Smackdown, leading to them winning by count out.

Because they're not as charismatic as New Day or The Usos.

Pretty much the heel turn started after HIAC when the New Day and Usos had their truce and turned the Usos face. That night Gable and Benjamin became number one contenders, and then after that they started cutting heelish backstage promos.

The Usos were getting face reactions pretty consistently & they weren’t turning New Day heel, so Gable & Benjamin became the #1 heel tag team instead of the #3 babyface tag team.

SDLive is where the heels are all cheered all of a sudden. Rusev and English, The Usos, Sami and Kevin, I'll take the real crowd heat wherever I can get it in the vacuum of The Miz leaving Smackdown (Corbin is always a pure heat magnet, but aside from him and Jinder true heels are scarce).
I'd like to see Gable and Benjamin adopt a gimmick like The Revival's. They will just out tag-team-wrestle you every time no matter the opponent, and they are brash heels who say things like they are the 'best tag team on this planet' while backing it up with wins.

Gable just seems like such a natural face, though. He’s small enough to be the underdog but powerful enough to throw larger guys around and wrap them up in knots. I suppose being a heel gives him the “edge” that, say, Jason Jordan clearly didn’t have.

^^I much rather prefer the way they're slow-building Gable, compared to the rocket push of Jordan on RAW. I think him playing with heel/face alignments (versus Jordan being forced to turn heel due to the crowd shitting on him) has made a drastic difference for Gable's career now that he's no longer with JJ. He looked pretty good in the F4W and they are using that as a launchpad for tag team momentum (pinning the champs clean).

Again; is it REALLY a rocket push if he not only loses every match, but they make him so much of a whiny bitch that it makes Dolph Ziggler look like a motivational speaker to boot?

I get his point though; Jordan went from being in a mid-card tag team to suddenly being heavily focussed in the upper card thanks to a terrible storyline that no-one bought for a second. He’s in a no-win situation with that. Gable, on the other hand, can slowly move up the card, proving his worth in the ring and hopefully building momentum and a following. I honestly think he could be a future main eventer. Dude is superb.

Shelton's a nice veteran hand to have, but Gable's fantastic. I've been saying it for a few weeks now, I want to see him get a nice US TItle run as a heel.

i believe things are like this at the moment
new day- faces usos- tweeners heading to the face side gable and Benjamin- tweeners heading to the heel side Rusev day- heels heading to the tweener side (i mean they were against xmas (since it falls on rusev day this year most likely) so can't really call them faces yet) slater and rhino- face bludgeon brothers- heel breezango- face
