I don't know who wouldn't buy it if they had enough money.. The WWE brand is probably the most consistent brands slightly on the level of Nfl, nba, ect, and the fact it's a profitable business does not hurt at all.

I'm surprised people think nobody will be interested. Despite a drop in viewers, WWE is a recognisable brand known around the world.
All it needs is a good Captain to steer the ship rather than the idiots they have in charge now and I'm sure viewing figures will jump back up. WWE's problems aren't from a lack of interest in wrestling, just that the writers and bookers are woefully shit.
Disney is a name what's been thrown around and yeah, I think they'd do a good job. Disney tends to be good quality and they've done good with Star Wars and Marvel (Movie and TV show wise, can't comment on comics since I stopped reading them years ago).
Plus if Disney were at the helm, New Day might finally get a world title push. Big E especially just looks tailormade to be the main guy in a Disney-run WWE. He looks great, fun to watch, is hilarious and charismatic, comes across as a likeable guy. I could see Disney loving him.

Vince Mcmahon is not selling WWE. That's never going to happen; unless as was mentioned it was within the family ala his dad.

Wrestling is Vince's life-why bother selling it now-he's too old to spend the money he already has To guarantee that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren are financially set for life. Barring catastrophic financial mismanagement, they already are.

That said the comics were on fire in 2012 but seem to have gone downhill since then.

The WWE is the undisputed leader in their field in the world. That fact is indisputable by whatever metric you choose to use. They continue to make money hand over fist and in many cases, in spite of themselves. Aside from a couple of years in the 1990s, they've practically had a license to print money. When you ask anyone what company is professional wrestling, they will answer the WWE in what I'd imagine would be in about the 90th percentile. They have name recognition and a market share that most any other company would kill for.
Vince McMahon has obsessively, compulsively worked for the past 30+ years to build this juggernaut and deserves to do whatever he damn well pleases with the fruits of his labor. I have no doubts he is planning on doing something big and to my knowledge, his sell off was common stock. This is just effectively, a liquidation of some assets.
A psychologist I am not, but the timing seems suspicious with the 30 for 30 about the XFL coming out about a year ago and now all of this talk and seemingly some fire where the smoke is about a reboot of the XFL. Vince has always seemed to be someone who wants to be greater than just wrestling (hello, WBF!!!). The only outside venture that the WWE has attempted that hasn't been a disaster is their part ownership of Tapout and their films division once they stopped trying to actually be a major studio. It is almost like Vince takes the XFL failure as a personal affront to him.
As far as selling the WWE, that will happen when Vince gets an offer he can't refuse and he will never get that price. Let's just say Disney or NBC is willing to discuss purchasing the WWE, those companies aren't going to pay a penny over what their calculations show the value to be. They haven't built their respective empires by overpaying for assets. Vince hasn't made more money in his dreams that we have in our lives by selling his deliverables short.
I've read on this board and others with people saying how great it would be if VKM and family would be bought out by one of these companies and it is just astounding to me. It worked so well for JCP and TBS. It is better the devil you know and if history has taught us anything, it is that major corporations can't run a wrestling business worth a damn. As much as I dislike what the WWE has become, it is still better than having wrestling relegated to the dark ages if a company would buy WWE and it ends up failing.
Bah, I need to go catch a shower and brush my teeth, I just defended the current state of the WWE.

The problem is the amount of profitability that they have. If they are only pulling in only $20 million profit like Carter said, then there is no way he's getting a billion for it. I'm surprised people think nobody will be interested. Despite a drop in viewers, WWE is a recognisable brand known around the world. All it needs is a good Captain to steer the ship rather than the idiots they have in charge now and I'm sure viewing figures will jump back up. 1. I'm not saying no one would be interested, but which big name brand would want it? Turner had to fight just to keep WCW from being sold.
2. Maybe true, but once you start chipping away at the hardcore fans, they are hard to bring back.
3. I'm gonna say something controversial here, but it's the honest truth: some of you guys here need to get out of your bubble and get with reality. Wrestling is seen as a joke and no one is gonna take it seriously. The ones who do don't have the money that Vince wants to sell it for. Disney ain't even gonna TOUCH the WWE.
Disney once bought the Power Rangers and made those old episodes into an edited mess. Do you really think they are gonna put that much effort into the brand they know nothing about? Besides, the wrestling business is still full of carnies. Do you think this company will still be up if an Eric Bischoff-type starts to go all 'ATM Eric' on Disney?
4. I would doubt that any of that would happen. If that were true, then he'd be all over other networks and magazines besides the ones WWE owns and pays for.

The NFL made $14 Billion this year; on average, each team is worth $2.5 billion - that's like 32 WWEs. And again, WWE is *not* the profit-maker it paints itself. It spent $380 million in order to make $400 million by their last report. That is barely - barely - profit.

I don't think the issues have been Disney's influence. Part of it was the continued sabotage of the various X-men books as a middle finger to Fox, while also trying to push Inhumans since they had movie rights to those. Unfortunately a lot of the choices they made were terrible from a storytelling perspective. There were also a few writers who while good at what they did gained positions of prominence beyond their abilities and were guiding large projects which they were woefully unprepared for. As much as I love the movies their influence has also in many cases upended storylines in order to cash in. Civil War 2 was an event that they basically admitted was created to cash in on the Civil War movie. It is far from the only time they've done that. I'm hopeful that with the acquisition of Fox, Marvel can right the ship. The thing is the movies are far more profitable than the comics have ever been so as long as they rake in cash, they can mostly do as they will on the comics side of things.

Or rather the marketing department on one end and the accounting department on the other having more say in things than they probably should, from a creative standpoint.

But the thing is WWE has the audience. So, WWE as a promotion might be barely profitable, but there's def ways a non wrestling company could benefit. Think if something like facebook bought wwe and ran Heat on their video platform. It not only adds legitimacy to their platform but undoubtedly would bring a ton of advertisers to their site.

No, it wouldn't. The advertisers aren't exactly bringing their 'A-game' dollars to wrestling. The ad revenue wouldn't cover the cost of buying it.

Yeah, Wrestling isn’t bringing advertising to television. Changing where Wrestling is isn’t going to suddenly do that. Also, I ask again, what could a company promote with WWE besides the shows, their own IPs and TV/brand deals? Because outside of that stuff and a (shrinking) audience, WWE has nothing to offer a company. They don’t own wrestlers outright, only the gimmicks they have for, and even then, it’s only for their present wrestlers. So if Disney brought it and wanted to do a Jerry Lawler resteraunt (I know, I know), they couldn’t because Lawler owns all that stuff already himself.

That is a big part of why they make a profit, that and being a good PG brand that can target kid demos for sponsorships. But with dipping ratings the past few years, they're gonna be looking at less rights money (which will be dipping across the board for cable companies with cord cutters kinda bursting their spending bubble. See:ESPN.) And the sponsorships may stay, but they need to show more stability. But the rights deal had an effect on the stock for the last negotiations. Getting a worse deal will probably dip them again, but with the Network gaining ground, it could go any number of ways. The problem is, the ratings and rights deal dipping and the Network growing is just a lot of instability, which doesn't make a great big money buyout/investment. Even for companies who are huge, have unfathomable resources, and are looking to consolidate more US businesses.

WWE would give something like facebook a shot at being a legitimate video provider. It's not necessarily about making a profit off of wrestling, but about bringing eyes to watching episodic original content on that platform...

Just look at how big WWE's support made Tout! tout wasn't running programs from it... But given the amount of promotion and airtime they gave it, it didn't translate to any kind of success. A few months of whatever the next "Saturday Morning Slam" will be isn't going to do much more.
