I feel bad because Axel has been treated as nothing but a joke since, to the point commentary were making quips you should CHANGE THE CHANNEL because his match was coming on.
Man they wonder why new stars can't get built.

Was there really a push, though? I mean, I know he has those accolades on his resume, but from day one, he was presented as purely lucking into those wins and such. Well, they did give him the title of "Paul Heyman Guy," back when that phrase was still relatively fresh from being coined in the Pipebomb promo and only shared on the roster by the likes of Brock Lesnar and CM Punk, so they were at least hoping at some point they could make him into a credible threat.

Never even came close to following through though. He absolutely had the skills, that ending up in the Miztourage was a considerable boost to his career shows just how badly WWE has sucked at booking new stars for years now.

I remember the night of his debut, Heyman hyping up bringing in a new client who'd be on par with Lesnar and Punk, the dramatic music building up his entrance... and then, on the Titantron, it's Mike McGillicutty's fat face. Live thread on here was filled with people laughing and mocking the hell out of the whole thing. Man they wonder why new stars can't get built. On the flipside, the Curtis Axel experiment was the same summer his NXT Season 2 bud Husky Harris reappeared on RAW with a new gimmick. And arguably less of an initial push, considering Bray Wyatt wasn't going over Triple f***ing H in his first match. But for all the crap he gets about the awful angles he's in, Bray's still managed to hang around in an upper-midcard/fringe main eventer spot for years now, while Axel hurtled back into jobberdom pretty fast. Not every failed push is booking's fault. Some guys have the it factor to rise to the top, and some guys, well, you don't know whether to spank them or breastfeed them.

He blew how own push with his goofy expression on the PPV poster. This is in the middle of your big push and that's the face you decide to pull for the promotional photo? You deserved to be depushed instantly.

This does remind that we had fake concussion angles as late as 2013.
Yikes.

Man, now I'm also reminded of how awesome Rybaxel was. They were a great act, but hey, the guy didn't get over when they wanted him to, so obviously the logical thing to do is to get in the way as much as possible, because he's clearly a loser forever.

My guess is they respected him as a solid hand and figured they'd give it a shot and see if lightning struck. Isn't Axel the guy they use to help a lot of the part-timers like Rock shake off their ring rust? That takes a degree of faith. Yeah Rocky loves him. Brock too.

You deserved to be depushed instantly. actually that almost looks like the mashed a left side and a right side of Axel's face together for some reason, the eyes look like they weren't lined up right and even the hairline suddenly changes at the halfway point. even one side of his beard is fuller than the other side.

His push lasted about six minutes, before HHH showed up and made him look like an asshole. I don't what the point of the whole concussion thing was.

And for that matter. Punk in 2011. Bryan in 2014. Orton in 2009. All these guys were hot, got into a program with HHH and all came out damaged.

Him and Otunga were starting to gel as a decent power tag team toward the end of that alliance prior to this 2013 push. If Axel ever excels I think it’s going to have to be as part of a tag team. Hopefully with a better tag partner than Otunga. Axel is a decent wrestler, but in an age where workrate is king decent just doesn’t cut it.

We can call them: Kurtis Axel, Kurt is Axel. Curtis Angle. Still better than Jason Jordan.

That match with triple H on raw where Vince kept coming out and stopping the match only for trips to start it again was absolutely hilarious.
That was a great episode of raw

Curtis is a strange one, big dude, good in the ring, has a goofy charisma, and yet it doesn't add up.
There are some guys who are more than the sum of their parts (Jeff Hardy a prime example of this to me) but Curtis seems to be less than the sum of his similar to Jack Swagger in that respect.
He's found his niche in the Miztourage at least, and is good at taking beatings in lieu of Miz.

The moment Triple H pulled the "STFU when grown folks are talking" card on him, Curtis was done. The horrible concussion angle that started up soon after that was just the shit cherry on top.
