Ring of Honor “Brew City Beatdown”
July 14th, 2012
From Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Commentators: Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino
Mike Sydal vs. Rhett Titus
Mike Sydal (not Matt, "Mike"; although they are brothers) had some of the worst tattoos on his back that I’ve ever seen. He wasn’t a bad wrestler though. He took a nasty fall on his near the end and kept going. This actually wasn’t a bad match.
Winner: Rhett Titus
Mike Mondo says he’s going to beat Jay Lethal tonight.
Mike Mondo vs. Jay Lethal
This was a solid match. Mondo hurt his ankle at the end and kept going. I felt bad for him because he was a heel and it was expected that he was going to pull the old bait-and-switch but I think it was a legit injury. Since everyone was waiting for the swerve the crowd was really not giving him the time of day and riding him pretty hard.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Jay Lethal is happy because he did what he set out to do tonight and he has a newfound respect for Mike Mondo for not giving up and finishing the match. He offers Mondo a rematch whenever he wants.
Samson Walker, Chris Silvio & Mohamad Ali Vaez vs. Tony Kozina, Shiloh Jonze & Adam Revolver
These guys must have been local talents? I can’t even say [blank] is now known as [blank] in NXT. Even Steve Corino was riding these unknowns. This was okay. I’ll give the six of them credit for going out there despite facing the hostility jobbers sometimes face from the crowd right out of the gate. Samson Walker was the only guy who showed me anything.
Winners: Samson Walkers team
Kyle O’Reilly says he didn’t tap out to Adam Cole a few weeks ago. And he’s his own man now.
TaDarius Thomas vs. Kyle O’Reilly
This wasn’t a bad match either. TaDarius Thomas looked better than I’ve ever seen him in the few matches I’ve seen him in.
Winner: Kyle O’Reilly
BJ Whitmer is ready for Roderick Strong tonight because he’s wrestling for his job.
Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini vs. BJ Whitmer
This was a pretty good match but I was very confused by the ending. I’m not sure why the referee stopped Roderick Strongs momentum?
Winner: Roderick Strong
Silas Young...it doesn’t matter what he said: he rules so much.
Rhino vows to rip Eddie Edwards in half tonight with a Gore.
Silas Young vs. Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini
Seeing Silas wrestle is always good but seeing him wrestle as a face was really weird. He’s supposed to yell at the crowd. Here he just kinda looked pissed off at them. This was a really good match though. Like, really good. Silas looked like a million dollars.
Winner: Michael Elgin
Good show of respect afterwards. Truth Martini doesn’t like it but I think Elgin was breaking away from him at the time.
Rhino w/Truth Martini vs. Eddie Edwards
Again, a really solid match.
Winner: Rhino
Roderick Strong is celebrating his victory but his focus is now on the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship.
Truth Martini is celebrating his and Michael Elgin’s victory over Silas Young. Elgin takes exception to that but he’s still focused on the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship and walks off. That catches Martini off guard.
Kevin Steen and Jimmy Jacobs are backstage making fun of the Briscoes. Steen says they were born to fight each other.
Kevin Steen & Jimmy Jacobs vs. the Briscoes
I recently saw this match on the Briscoes latest DVD ‘Man Up’ but it was really good and worth watching again. It was a decent match until it ended in a double count out. Then Jim Cornette came out and restarted it as an Anything Goes match. It was pretty crazy after that. Mark Briscoes dive off the balcony was insane. Mark Briscoe is insane.
Winners: the Briscoes
Afterwards Kevin Steen and Jimmy Jacobs beat on the Briscoes until Rhett Titus comes to the rescue. He grabs a mic and says he’s going to step up and rid Ring of Honor of Kevin Steen. He asks the Briscoes to join him in his mission.

DVD Extras:
Briscoes “Ready for Evil” promo. Uncle Jethro was with them and he was pretty cool. And they had an AK-47 or something. I don’t know I’m not up on my assault weapons.
Rhett Titus “Creating Opportunities” promo. Rhett didn't seem very comfortable in this role as a face. Or natural. He cut the same promo here that he cut at the end of the show. But it did lead to a very good cage match a couple of months later between the Briscoes and Titus against SCUM that I never understood how it came to be and how Rhett ended up in it. Now I do.
S.C.U.M. promo.

This was a really solid show. There wasn’t a bad match on the card even though a lot of the guys were unknowns. The Silas Young verses Michael Elgin match was one of the best matches I’ve seen from Silas and the main event was a fun stupid brawl.
But something was weird at this show. Not only were a lot of the wrestlers not regulars in Ring of Honor (which led to matches like Samson Walker, Chris Silvio and Mohamad Ali Vaez verses Tony Kozina, Shiloh Jonze and Adam Revolver being on the card) but a lot of the regular Ring of Honor staff wasn’t there either. None of the normal referees were there, the camera and ring crew looked like hired guns and Bobby Cruise wasn’t the ring announcer. Something was up. If it didn’t take place in July I’d have attributed it to guys not being able to make it due to snow. So I’d really like to know why so many of the regular Ring of Honor wrestlers and staff were absent at this show?
Watching this show made me really miss Steve Corino on commentary. He’s great. Kevin Kelly is as well. Ian Riccaboni and Colt Cabana just don’t cut it.
Overall this was a surprisingly good DVD and is worth adding to your collection.
