At a Target, I was wearing an old WCW shirt and a guy awkwardly asked if it was a wrestling shirt. I thought maybe he quit watching a while ago, but his knowledge showed and he invited me to get drunk with his friends and go to indie shows.
Similar thing at a Taco Bell, where a girl told me Goldberg was her childhood hero.

Last year at work I was listening to a podcast and my co worker asked if I knew who Mankind was, they were talking about Foley, we then talked about wrestling for hours. It's cool when you meet another fan.

At my old job, a bunch of dudes were into it. Because Disney is full of nerds, but they were pretty much all smarks, so it was always good conversation.
This young kid who worked at McDonalds saw my CM Punk hoody once and started talking to me about it whenever I'd stop by. Kind of a mark but really enthusiastic about it.
The WORST was me and a friend who's also into wrestling we're at this convention months ago..and one salesman there had a bunch of old memorabilia, a long time fan, way older than us, so we talked about wrestling, and it was cool. Suddenly this other younger vendor joins in but is REAL creepy about it and is a total mark despite probably being our age. He talked about matches like they were legitimate and would enthusiastically say "_______ is going to kick ________'s ass so hard...he stands no chance, it's gonna be ugly". We just...kind of awkwardly walked away ..

Had it happen a few times, but always when I had on a wrestling shirt. Oddly i own no WWE shirts.
Everyone that has said anything only seems to watch WWE currently.
BTW wrestling shirts I own.
5 Bodyslam Media Productions shirts-The head of BMP ordered too many in my size so he gives me one every time I work with them. Wildkat Sports-Had a few people think it is a high school football shirt. NJPW Big Mike-Yea this one has been retired thanks to recent events. TNA Bad Influence-This older lady saw me wearing it and we ended talking about TNA. TNA Sam Shaw Creepy Bastard-As seen in my Sig pic. No one has commented on the shirt.

Was at the zoo with my son about a month ago wearing my bullet club shirt. Another guy, who was also wearing a bullet club shirt, came over and asked if I was a fan. Ended up talking to him about wrestling for about 5 minutes.

Not to talk, but I get random shoutouts, like I was waiting at the train station, and one of the guys working there suddenly starts doing Sami Zayn's music at me, took me a moment to remember I was wearing his Tshirt.

I used to get pretty good reactions from my Enzo & Cass shirt...people yelling "S-A-W-F-T, Sawft! Same happened to my mother when I let her borrow it, except at the time she had no clue who Enzo and Cass was (she doesn't watch NXT).
