According to a Facebook wrestling news group I follow, they are saying PWI reported that the original plan was to have Finn Balor reprise the role of "Surprise tag team partner" he did with Hideo Itami since it went over so well and be Seth's partner to win the tag belts with. This was scrapped shortly before the show and Jason Jordan was inserted instead.
Thoughts?
Is he not over enough? (har har har...)
UPDATE EDIT: Can't actually seem to confirm this story as being from PWI like it was claimed. Take with a grain of salt.

If this is true, I have mixed feelings. Finn would be way better, but it'd still be a very filler team that is probably for the long haul.

I doubt it. No one else has reported it. But, if it's true, I guess that's lame. Balor should be doing SOMETHING worthwhile.

IF this is true, and I'm going to stress IF, this is only going to make the general dislike of Jordan worse. MUCH WORSE.

Finn would have felt even more out of place than Jordan but I do think him and Rollins could have had some great chemistry as a tag team
This title reign seems to be made to have them lose to the Revival probably

This seems to add up.
Recall that Jordan was seemingly in the midst of a slow-burn heel turn, which will presumably be forgotten about now.

Update: I've tried finding further confirmation of this story from PWI itself, but I can't seem to find it unless it was announced on Twitter or some crap I never use.
As for if I would prefer it, it seems this is really little more than an excuse to have Seth Rollins tied down for a while as Dean recovers. Wouldn't want him stepping on Roman's toes.

Once again Jordan is the beneficiary of an unplanned insertion.

I am fine with the decision to go with Jordan. Say what you want but if you are trying to have him be something important on RAW, he needs to win eventually and this gives him some credibility. Plus he can still use it to turn heel - it just might be a bit slower than anticipated.

This could still be part of that, if they wanted to either have him screw over Seth, intentionally or otherwise, or something like if he badmouthed Dean by saying he was an upgrade or some other arrogance.

All I know is that WON said that Ambrose was heavily featured in the WM plans but because of his injury he's out and Jordan's not turning heel yet because of this Rollins thing. Idk about Balor and all but eh, man Balor ain't getting a break is he? I figured with abs like that Vince would put the title on him again but shit.

Jordan is likely headed for a heel turn, and Balor just isn't. Ambrose was likely also headed for a heel turn, so it would make sense to substitute one imminent turn for the other.
Even if they really don't have anything of substance planned for Balor, he's still probably getting a decent spot on the Mania card, because Demon entrance and merchandise, which necessitates him not turning on Rollins.

The Xmas raw was the first I've watched in ages and it seemed to me like Jordan is at the start of a slow heel turn. If they do that while they're still a team it could be a real interesting dynamic between them. Especially if Jordan doesn't really do anything wrong except not being Ambrose.
Similar to Bo an Neville in NXT. If it's as good as that I'll take it over the superteam.

To be honest, I'm not that upset about it, I'd prefer Finn in singles competition, maybe going after the IC title if Joe ends up beating Roman.

I expect within the next 3 weeks, they lose the belts due to Jordan overconfidence or Rollins miscommunication, and it's a big part of the Jason Jordan heel turn. In other words, I don't believe this bit of NEWZ.
As for Balor, he fits the "upper mid carder spinning his wheels who suddenly lasts 40 minutes in the Royal Rumble" trope to a T. Kane, Matt Hardy, Carlito, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk (2007), Cody Rhodes, Mike Knox, Cody Rhodes, Cody Rhodes, etc...

Because of being "upper midcard guy who last 40 minutes in the Rumble somehow" so many times, Cody Rhodes ended up spending more total time in the match than anyone in history other than Jericho, Triple H, Michaels, Kane and Mysterio.

He also usually eliminated at least one person, so was actually sneaking up both the cumulative time and the all time eliminations list before he left the company.
