I'm guessing the people saying it's no big deal/blown out of proportion aren't parents. I assume your a parent. Please explain in detail, because other's mentioned gas station clerks all the way up to doctors work on the holidays.

If they really want to thank the roster, they should try booking them correctly and turning them into actual "superstars"

Most people don't basically live on the road as it is, so it's especially important for these people to spend some extra time at home for the holidays before they're back in travel cycle again.

I also hope all the arena staff having to work on Christmas got well compensated for it.

I have slightly more concern for stewards and concession workers who had to work a show that couldve easily been pre-taped.

Why didn't they just put on a pretaped year in review show? It would have done the same numbers.

Reminds me of the time when my chef thanked me for working insane hours by feeding me a jambalaya comprised of all the food that was going bad.

I'm guessing the people saying it's no big deal/blown out of proportion aren't parents. You know, I’m not, but I have parents who both worked shift work so, you know what happened? They put in a word with Santa or the Easter Bunny and they just came early. Really. The three of them got together and agreed and the family came over and Christmas happened the day the whole family could be together. If you celebrate Christmas as the religious holiday, fair play, you need that day. If it’s just a secular holiday, then quit bitching. Besides, even when guys had Christmas off, they had to travel that day, because they had a show the next day. So they weren’t there anyway. I’m really tired of that day crashing all of North America to a halt.

Any parent that has to work Christmas has my sympy. Just because it happens doesn't mean I can't think it sucks for them.

Is WWE superstars having to work Christmas and New Years no different than NFL and NBA players that have to play on holidays? Difference there is that NFL and NBA players get offseasons. WWE wrestlers don't. I keep reading this but I still can't figure out how having off days in June, July and August has anything to do with working Christmas. For the record, between game and practice days, NBA players are like Darren Young from September until the season ends in May or June. The 100-ish days they get off between seasons is pretty much the same amount of time the rest of the workforce gets.

It's because in years past it's pretty much been their one guaranteed time off for the year, the one time where they can just say screw it and have a few days off in a row to recharge and be with their family. For me the issue really isn't that it's Christmas itself, it's that it's the one time a year they could just sit at home and no one would mind and it wouldn't really cause any problems at all but USA had to take that from them.

My feelings on people working Christmas are pretty simple; I recognize and appreciate there are services we can't afford to go without, even for one day, and it's awful when people are forced to work on a day as opposed to spending time with their families, but kudos to the folks who either don't care or like to work it as there's oftentimes bonuses and perks for doing so.
That said, there really is no excuse for not having a pre-taped episode. USA gets their content, WWE fulfills the agreement, the talent gets to go home for a bit. Was one segment featuring John Cena, 2 hours and 30 minutes of "meh", and a pointless title change worth airing live? I know it seems to be on USA for this, but there's things you can do to make shit happen.

Why didn't they just put on a pretaped year in review show? It would have done the same numbers. USA demanded it, and WWE has to adhere to the contract. USA's ratings aren't great, they haven't developed an actual hit since Suits (the first couple seasons), so they need the ratings boost to increase their numbers, and charge more to advertisers.

Where is all of the outrage about the NFL and especially the NBA working Christmas?

If the issue isn't Christmas itself, then you should be fine since they had the weekend right before Christmas off so they did get those few days.

Why didn't they just put on a pretaped year in review show? It would have done the same numbers. There was almost no drop in ratings from the week prior to the Christmas episode. A year in review show would not have pulled that type of rating.

I had to work a ton of holidays when I was working in the food and beverage industry in high school and college and making barely above minimum wage.
These aren't some poor indentured servants being forced to work against their will. They are well paid entertainers who know exactly what they signed up for. I'll also point out that up until 25 years ago, Christmas and Thanksgiving shows were some of the biggest money shows of the year.
