Other than Pentagon and Fenix perhaps, no Hispanic talent really did anything this year. AAA continues to be a mess whilst CMLL puts out dull and uninspired shows. It really depends how you look at it. English language pro wrestling news/analysis that looks beyond WWE has generally grown out of Dave Meltzer, and still focuses on a certain concept of match quality/workrate that isn't necessarily all that relevant outside that bubble of fandom. Psycho Clown vs. Dr Wagner Jr. at TripleMania was the most watched live wrestling match in North America since Hogan vs. Andre in the '80s. Taken in isolation, it wasn't a very good match, but it's arguably more significant than anything that happened in WWE this year. It's certainly more significant than the one thing from that show that actually got traction in smarkdom, a woman folks know from TNA getting shoot injured by a woman folks know from Lucha Underground. Even in a non kayfabe list you have big names like Caristico,Volador or Rush that at least deserve an "honorable mention".

Kind of weird that SI is giving pro wrestling respect, since theyve previously trashed it (i remember one time in the 90s they mocked Ali for being ringside at a WCW ppv). Could we see a wrestler show up on the cover again soon?

I hate Kenny Omega with a passion. The motherf***er ruined pwg for me during his championship reign and I went years without watching until Kevin Steen returned there. I will also think it was a legit embarrassment the shit he did in DDT.
That being said, he is the best in the world. There I said it, the dipshit is super talented. I feel like throwing up now.

I actually like Kenny and I rank him as the #2 best in ring worker in the world. The only guy I would say is clearly better than him right now is Okada, and it's not by much. That being said, I think he's also the most overrated wrestler in the world, which is completely insane because I still believe he's damn good. He's overrated because of several things, most of all people overlook his flaws. Personally, I think many of his promos are cringeworthy, but he can pull off a very good promo if he wants to. While I actually enjoy his comedy wrestling, I find it odd that someone so high up in the company would do it and not take themselves more seriously. Also, he does some stupid dangerous moves at times. The suplex out of the ring against Juice looked brutal, he knocked Naito's head into the ringpost in the G1 final and the painful to watch dragon superplex against Okada at WK11 are just a few examples. I think Okada is a much safer worker. Then there is the fact that to me, people often overrate his matches. I thought Juice vs Omega at Power Struggle was a fantastic match, but their G1 match wasn't that good. Granted Omega's bad matches are better than a lot of wrestlers's best matches, but what I am saying is not everything he does is 4.5 stars or higher.

As I said earlier in the thread, this is deserved because aside from maybe the Bucks (maybe Joey Ryan? That was more 2016 though), no one has got even close to the amount of outside buzz as Omega, so it makes sense he's recognised by a publication outside wrestling.
As people are weighing in with opinions on Kenny though, I'll leap aboard this bandwagon.
He's....okay. I struggle to take him seriously because he doesn't take himself seriously. I don't believe him in the ring, he has a problem I see in a lot of guys now, he just does moves. I don't feel any connection with him as a performer.
The only match of his I really enjoyed was vs Haruka which kind of gives an idea of how I see him.
But he's over as hell as evidenced by this award so as much as it bores me, push him to the moon and make money Gedo.

The bolded part is a main issue I have with him, his character just isn't that strong, although he seems to be improving in that department. His interviews before the G1 were actually pretty solid and I really liked how he talked about trying to beat Okada in 30 minutes. Slowly, he is learning when to be serious and when he can be silly. In the ring he already has it figured out. As far as Gedo pushing him to the moon, he did a great job with him this year. After the will he, won't he resign nonsense, I think they were hesitant to truly push him to the top, but they still gave him purpose and hell a win over Okada. I think if he sticks around again(which it sounds like he will), he will have an IWGP title reign this year, my guess is anywhere from winning the title at Strong Style Evolved or Dominion.

He won the PWG belt at BOLA. Missed the Russellmania, and then lost in an awesome match against Davey Richards at As the Worm Turns. What about this one match reign ruined PWG for you? Lol

Lol It's just my personal opinion. He had matches with Richards and Danielson that completely turned me off from PWG. It's an irrational dislike I have for the guy. I don't know how to explain it, maybe it's his looks, the comedy stuff, his promos, the fact that I think he's corny and wack, or a combination from those characteristics. I despise Kenny Omega as a wrestler and as a character, but if asked to judge him I would give him a ten out of a ten. He's that good.
