Yeah if Roman was the Top Merch getter that shit faded fast, and no I dont count The Shield Gear as ROMAN Gear, it's all three guys people are supporting, the faction, the group. So I guess back to the drawing board on why his push is still happening. Time to give him a different colored shirt every other month. Honestly you joke but I think that's the key to Cena's merch success more than any sort of innate quality of the man himself. His charisma helps certainly but every few months guy roles out a full array of a new shirt, new wristbands, a new armband, a new hat, and a new towel, all with a unified aesthetic and all clearly distinct from what he did previously - hell of a lot more likely to hook repeat customers due to the collection factor than, "Here's yet another shirt with Roman's logo and some catchphrase on it." It's basically like he's wrestling Barbie except the clothes you're buying are for yourself. I mean, people still fondly remember stuff like the Pro Wrestling and Rise Above Hate shirts years later. Who the hell remembers what a single Roman Reigns shirt looks like unless they own it?

I love just how done with those fools Balor is. "I don't even care how much money they make, I'm going to McMahonland to get away from these goofs." "And yet I'm still gonna reference the Bullet Club every single chance I get since I have no other defining character trait outside of Jacket and Paint"

The only reason I remember anything about Roman's design is how much it just seems stolen from Jeff Hardy's symbol, like blatantly.

Without ANY promotion and purely living off the past, the nWo still draws to this day? Amazing. When you're nWo.....

I always feel like the top lists on WWEShop are not super accurate.
Like I remember that Enzo sauce shirt being number one immediately after it came out.

I hate to burst anyone’s bubble here but that link appears to have just sorted by “top sellers” on WWE Shop and it’s been noted for years that that isn’t a literal best sellers list. It can be a mixture of new shirts and stuff WWE wants to promote at a given time. I’m sure Rusev’s shirt is doing well but there’s no way this list is completely accurate. Like do you really think Cena/New Day/Hardys/Reigns/Ambrose solo don’t have any top selling itemS?

QUick Vince, better bury him, take his catchphrase off him or take him off TV before he gets too over on his own.

For those reveling in no Roman, I sorted just a moment ago and the Shield was listed first and Roman eighth. The article linked in the OP is what I despise about wrestling "journalism." An online writer goes to WWE shop, selects sort by best seller then writes an articles stating Rusev is the number one merch mover in WWE. No context, no dates, no numbers. No reason to have any of that stuff because he knows a shitload of internet fans will link the article and use it as further proof Vince doesn't know what the hell he's doing since Handsome RuRu doesn't have all the belts.

Rusev's as hot as he's ever been. It's actually pretty interesting given Jinder's title win was supposed to go to Rusev but dude was injured so Jinder got it instead. In turn Jinder became champion and Rusev somehow found this gimmick with English and it's gotten him over. Who knows what would have happened to Rusev had he become champion but I do know that rather than before when he would have become champion, at least the company had him in mind. Now however he's over, selling merch, has a great gimmick and can win the belt with people behind him.
It'll work out well for Rusev. Give him the belt in 2018 please.

He needs to rip off the "O'DOYLE RULES" thing and randomly yell "RUSEV RULES" after a move RYBACK RULES

Without ANY promotion and purely living off the past, the nWo still draws to this day? Amazing. Watch any RAW or Smackdown from the 21st century, even up to today, and pay attention to the crowd. I guarantee there's something like a 50-50 chance you'll see at least one guy in an nWo shirt. It's probably the single most successful piece of pro wrestling merchandise ever.

The only thing missing are the little alphabetized numbers next to each piece of merchandise.

The logistics of explaining the Rusev shirt to anyone who isn’t a fan makes my head hurt.

You're comments are basically acknowledging how passionate Cena fans are. It's like college athletics. The Universities of Wisconsin, Arizona and Arizona State have huge enrollments and have competitive athletic departments. The University of Kentucky has a smaller enrollment than all three and up until about 10 years ago was basically a one-trick pony in terms of athletic emphasis. UK also moves more merchandise than three others, maybe than all three combined. This is because of the passion of the fanbase. Arizona fans have a shirt or two. Kentucky fans have closets full of blue shit. That's kind of like Cena. Most wrestling fans will buy a shirt, maybe two, of people they like. Cena fans apparently buy everything that's put out with the dude's image on it.

I mean, Cena'd probably do a lot of merch sales regardless, but I mean I think that's the biggest reason why he leaves everyone else in the dust as thoroughly as he does. They've hit on a winning marketing strategy with the dude. It certainly wouldn't work doing the exact same thing with Jinder so don't want to sound like I'm diminishing Cena, but I don't think he'd be nearly as much of a merch mover if his shirts were just all black with a standard logo and a random catchphrase on it.
