Well. He's got no hot storyline.
Feud.
Or tag partner or stable he can turn on.
Is this the year he finally enters the Andre The Giant Battle Royal?

I'm kind of wondering if they might be angling for a Styles / Orton / Nakamura three-way. They have been really pushing the idea of tension between Orton and Nakamura without any clear sign of capitalizing on it, and while ordinarily I'd think it'd just be Orton / Nakamura given that... That really sounds like a completely meaningless match for Mania that'd just eat up time better spent elsewhere. As such I could easily see them doing a triple threat instead.

They've done that a lot with Orton in regards to him not having anything marquee or set in stone come Mania
Hell, he lost to Kane a few years ago after the disaster of embrace the hate

Yeah, his Kane match (which should have gone to Ryder) was thrown together at the last minute. Similar circumstances happened earlier when he suddenly had a match against CM Punk. Don't worry, Orton will get a match.
For what it's worth, I feel like the best example of a match with two guys who had nothing going on is Angle/Kane at Wrestlemania X-8.

If they don't do AJ/Nakamura, I'd be fine with Orton/Nakamura.
Not sure about the 3-way, though.

Orton is one of those guys who the company will always find a place for, because unlike some dudes like Sheamus and Dolph, they actually keep the "former (X)-time world champion" thing in consideration when it comes to always keeping him important when it's time.

Angle / Kane's more blatant, since it was a year of Angle being one of the tip-top guys only to get a total nothing of a match (nothing against Kane, he was very over at the time, just match itself meant nothing), but Angle / Benoit the previous year was pretty much the same. Last minute scramble to give Kurt something to do while Austin and Rock took up the main-event. Really it was kind of the 2001 Goldberg / Lesnar / Owens / Jericho when you think about it. Another horribly blatant one was Batista / Umaga which had absolutely no reason to happen even in-story beyond a vague brand warfare thing.

If they don't do AJ vs. Nakamura one on one at WM, I'd love to see Orton and Nakamura go for the tag titles there. A triple threat with AJ would be fine too.

I've made it clear I don't find Orton interesting but he was WWE champion at the last 'mania so I figure he'll have something. It just might take a month or two for it to be clear.

I expect a Orton heel turn at some point My thought going into Rumble was Randy will turn on Nak which will lead to them having a match at the next (whatever the hell that is in feb) and then Orton splits off to something else Would love to see him interact in midcard more in regards to US title or even put him in a tag team which really motivated him last year with Bray

I believe so It's kind of funny when you consider Kurt got last min matches at X7 and X8 Sure no one was really complaining about seeing Benoit vs Kurt but to have Kane and Kurt wait until the very last min to get a match is crazy

And all it took for him to get that favor was to let Brock split his head open (ughh still nasty)

He’s winning the Royal Tumble isn’t he. I doubt they have Orton win the rumble back to back.

I've wanted a two man power trip tag team with him and Cena for years. Do it now and put them against the Usos or New Day

I thought it was something like that but I couldn't be bothered to look up the details. Though technically after winning the championship, he was champion at Mania
