I'm thinking about selling my Wii for a Wii U. Is there any reason not to? I can use my Wii mote and play all of my Wii games on it, right?
The only negative I can think of is that I don't believe you can play Gamecube games on the Wii U (not that I own any but I might like to start collecting, one day).

Pretty much it. Make sure you get the black Wii U as it has more memory. And also get a copy of "The Wonderful 101", because it's a great game and deserves more love.

At this stage does the Wii have any resale value? Just a cursory look at eBay has pre-owned consoles going for around £25. You'd probably be better off keeping it for the option of GameCube backwards-comparability, unless you plan on getting an actual GameCube console.

It's really too bad Nintendo marketed the Wii U so badly; very much enjoyed the handful of games that made it on there as hits, and Wonderful 101 is a great example of that.

You'll basically get no money for the Wii. Might as well keep it, and play around with moddding it and checking out the homebrew stuff. www.gamestop.com/browse/nintendo-wii-u/systems?nav=28xp0,131b0-c4 (copy and paste, that link is broken for some reason) Gamestop has a sale on refurbished Wii U's. $129.99 for the Legend of Zelda black or regular black ones, $109.99 for white.

Awesome, been having a few of the same questions myself since my Wii a week or two ago died for some reason.

The only other thing I can think of is I believe some of the Wii VC games aren't on the Wii U shop. But I think you can buy those through the Wii menu on Wii U anyway.

Really the only real issues are you need to go into a sub-menu to do stuff on the Wii itself, which is pretty minor, and that the Wii U can't legally play Gamecube games. That and if you're attached to using a Gamecube controller for Virtual Console stuff, Brawl, or Mario Kart you're SOL because the adapter only works for Smash Bros. 4.

Not all Wiis are backwards compatible, but it is notable that outside of getting a supremely rare set of GC component cables, the BC Wii's are the only legal way to play GC games in 480p unless you have a disc drive compatible with the GC mini-discs for the Dolphin emulator. For some reason, the supply of component cables for the GC outside of Japan were extremely limited in spite of the GC's innate ability to play games in progressive scan. Nintendo wouldn't even license third party component cables for the machine.
It is something to keep in mind, at least. And at this point, I imagine you can buy a Wii U for whatever games and it won't be too expensive as it wasn't a very popular system and the Switch is the new hotness.
