The Blue and Purple Brands kick off their 2018 in Orlando tonight, as the road to the Royal Rumble (or is that Royal Riott) winds on...
Last week, WWE Champion AJ Styles fell to Kevin Owens in a non-title match, thanks to SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon's meddling backfiring on him. GM Daniel Bryan had allowed Sami Zayn at ringside, and McMahon's efforts to get rid of him ended up in Owens scoring the pin on Styles, with the champ angry at Shane. This week, Styles goes one on one with Zayn in their first ever WWE meeting - will McMahon make sure that Owens isn't at ringside, or will Bryan get him out there?
The Tag Team Titles are on the line tonight, as Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin challenge The Usos. The team labelled "American Alpha 2.0" by some got past The New Day and TEAM RUSEV DAY of Aiden English and Rusev last week to get the shot - they won a match with The Usos via count-out in November, and then defeated them in a non-title match a couple of weeks ago, so do Benjamin and Gable have the keys to the Uso Penitentiary?
A tournament for the vacant WWE United States Championship began last week, after Daniel Bryan presumed that Dolph Ziggler had given up the title. Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal have made the semi finals after defeating Baron Corbin and Tye Dillinger respectively, and this week, we've got the other two quarter finals, as Aiden English takes on Xavier Woods, and Mojo Rawley faces his former tag team partner Zack Ryder. The final will take place at the Royal Rumble on January 28th, who will take one step closer this week?
The two Royal Rumble matches are beginning to fill up - it was confirmed last night that the Women's Royal Rumble Match will also feature 30 competitors, and so far we've got Naomi, Natalya and Ruby Riott representing Team Blue, while in the Men's Match, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura have entered. Who will add their names to the lists tonight?
All this and much more tonight from 8/7c on USA - then it's 205 Live on the WWE Network, where in a rematch from last week, Hideo Itami takes on Gentleman Jack Gallagher!
