There are plenty of stupid decisions made by producers and studio heads that interfere with creative people's work but what are some of the dumbest "good" ideas?

To elaborate on Spider-Man 3 I'm actually more with the studio than Raimi on that one. Raimi didn't care about Venom and wanted Sandman as the main heel, whereas I'd think about 99% of humanity would far prefer Venom. The problem was that they just compromised and did neither especially well.

The studio head sending out a memo that Back to the Future would be called Spaceman From Pluto instead. Spielberg just wrote back “Thanks for the hilarious joke memo. We’re all stressed and exhausted. That joke really lifted our spirits!”
It was never mentioned again.

when Buckethead started getting major panic/anxiety attacks and left Guns n' Roses Tracii Guns sent Axl an e-mail suggesting he could take Bucketheads place in GnR and it would be close to the original band back since Izzy was showing an interest in coming back in part time, and Axl's manager sent him an email going "Axl appreciates the laugh"

Canning a half-way decent horror story because you didn't think it would 'connect with a younger audience', changing the script and re-filming it, then editing and releasing the first movie when the second one bombs at the box office?
("Exorcist: The Beginning" and "Dominion: Prelude to the Exorcist")

Raimi didn't care about Venom and wanted Sandman as the main heel, whereas I'd think about 99% of humanity would far prefer Venom. The problem was that they just compromised and did neither especially well. The main villain Raimi wanted was Vulture. It was going to be a Sandman and Vulture picture with Sandman basically being Vulture's reluctant apprentice/henchman. You can tell which scenes Raimi was interested in and which were forced in by the studio... it's REALLY obvious. Not to mention that Venom kinda needs more setup than 1/3 of a movie.. which is more or less what Sony forced on him because they also wanted the New Green Goblin stuff. Had they just done the black suit setup through 3 (and well better...) while letting Raimi make the movie he wanted ending with the bell scene it probably would have come out much better.

They chose the option of forcing a popular character in where he didn't fit, so the movie sucked and people didn't care about any of the characters at all. Hell, look at the MCU, getting it off the ground with Iron Man who people outside comics didn't care about... until the movie was awesome, of Guardians of the Galaxy, a pretty obscure bunch of characters... but the movie was awesome so it made them popular.

The guy from Warner Brothers who bragged into a Looney Tunes meeting and said that Bull Fights aren't funny.
Chuck Jones looked at the others after he left and said he hasn't been right yet, which lead to Bully for Bugs being made.

My favourite part of that story is that no one had mentioned or even thought of bull fighting, he just randomly decided to say it.
