well if people want competitive video gaming to be taken seriously, they can start by not calling it "E-Sports". it's not a sport. it's like calling a comic book a graphic novel instead (or perhaps, more topically, sports entertainment indtead of wrestling). reeks of pretension to me. also, watching other people play video games when you could just go play it yourself seems ultra-boring to me. If darts is a competitive sport, so is pro gaming.

For me, fighting game e-sports are hella fun to watch. They have an easy back-forth dynamic for the audience to keep up with, and it's a good way to figure out new strategies when you play the game yourself. (That, and the Street Fighter scene has some entertaining personalities.)
But I can't casually sit through an FPS playthrough and stay too excited. If it's a Let's Play with funny commentary, fine. But in an e-sports context, it isn't as compelling as me actually playing it.

Team FPSs are especially hard to watch because you never have a full view of things and at same time is some of the fun of playing it

Some of them are fun if presented in a way people can follow what's going on. Sometimes it's presented in a way even people in the know about the game can't follow what's happening. Stuff like FPSes outside of "Search and Destroy" style "if you're killed, you're out 'til next round" are impossible. I LOVE playing Splatoon for example, but I've NEVER seen anyone make that presentable in an e-sports fashion, for example. Now, stuff like League and DOTA, if you know the material, can be followed. They even have a special HUD for people watching so you can see items and stats as they play, stuff that wouldn't be available to the people playing without opening menus. I'm not a big fan of either game, but that's about the only way you can make that presentable, and obviously it has its audiences. Fighting games are the ones that benefit most. Those are easier to at least figure out the surface mechanics of. You can explain the basics of Smash Bros. to someone in about 30 seconds. A Street Fighter game might take a little longer, but it's simple enough that you can watch and learn as you go w/o being overwhelmed. But that's the conundrum with E-Sports to me. The most popular games to the general public are games that are VERY difficult to broadcast. It would take a fighting game hitting CoD/Minecraft heights, and I'm not sure if we'll see that. Or it would take someone figuring out a way to present an FPS match in a way people can follow easily. CS GO is an FPS and is super easy to explain

No. I don’t want to watch people play video games . Same, I’m befuddled when I hear about the rise of esports and some of the prize money amounts being banded about. I mean I love video games, but watching someone else play video games is just so boring to me That’s just my opinion though obviously My opinion as well. I just don't get it. I hardly even like watching a friend play while we are taking turns or something. (Though this might be because at this point in my life "friend" means wife, and "play" means play so terribly I just want to take over) I also hate watching sports.
