The biggest complaint I see about the NWO is that there were too many members and it should have remained as the core trio.
While I agree guys like Konnan, Vincent, Stevie Ray, etc all sucked who are some of the better members of the NWO outside of the main three?
My first episode of Nitro as a kid was the induction of Curt Hennig who would go on to win the US title that night from Mongo, then defending it each week against Jarrett, Benoit, The Giant (look this one up, Hennig hits a Fisherman suplex) and DDP.
The announcers really put over what a scumbag Curt was for betraying the Horsemen building to a program with Flair. Hennig eventually ended up getting kicked out of the B Team early on but he was probably the NWOs biggest singles star outside of Hogan and Savage at this point.

Syxx really did an excellent job of actually putting on good matches for them and was willing to take the fall and put WCW over when the other guys wouldn't.

Like all lists in professional wrestling, this one begins and ends with Scott-by God-Norton.

Honestly?
Buff Bagwell.
Yes, he was a goof and a momma's boy and was sloppy and had a shitty attitude.
But he kind of perfectly encapsulated the sheer obnoxiousness of the nWo at the time.

Syxx and Hennig would be my top choices for WCW's nWo, they both had meaningful purposes and were top in ring performers. Of course New Japan had Masahiro Chono, Keiji Mutoh, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Kojima later joining. Scott Norton was very important in the Japanese version, but not so much in WCW's.

I'll always maintain that the nWo NEEDED to balloon like it did for the storyline to make sense. They were an invading force, and, eventually, a kayfabe wrestling promotion unto themselves. You just can't have that with only three guys.
So, rather than getting hung up on how they didn't stay true to the original spirit of the angle (WWF guys invading WCW) and instead focusing on the nWo as a malevolent, growing darkness taking over WCW, I'll say Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, and, yes, Eric Bischoff. Sure, the last one sort of defied logic, but he was the perfect smarmy mouthpiece of the group and a terrific heat magnet when he wasn't letting his ego get in the way.

Like all lists in professional wrestling, this one begins and ends with Scott-by God-Norton. Really glad I wasn't the first one to come in here to post his name. And despite what is thought of the guy in general, Bagwell grabbed that goddamn spotlight as best he could and made a run with it. In the end, we remember him...... that's success.

My personal favorites outside of the main 3:
Syxx Scott Steiner Buff Bagwell Curt Hennig Scott Norton The Giant Stevie Ray Konnan Randy Savage
But realistically I think the nWo should have just mainly been elite talent with maybe two or three mid-card guys in the group. I think a lot of fans felt it was getting watered down when they kept adding random members what seemed like every other week. It should have probably been 6 elite members, 3 mid carders, & Bischoff.

Not my choice, but kinda surprised no one's mentioned Steiner yet.
...well, except the guy that posted while I was typing this...

He's the first guy I think of when this question is posed. Eventually Steiner came off as heir to the throne, but Bagwell always came off to me as the young(er) guy that would break out as a star.

I'm another guy who's of the mind that the group had to get huge for the initial storyline to make sense, but I think it would've been nice if they had let Sting vanquish Hogan at Starrcade, then move toward a "leaner and meaner" nWo that stopped trying to take over the entire promotion by brute force and numbers and kept things simpler, instead. I guess that was kind of the intent when they tried nWo 2000, but it was just too late by then.

Bagwell was great and had top face potential.

My favorites were usually Muta, Savage, Norton and Buff, then Steiner once he joined. Hall was my main guy among the big three.

Randy Savage, a solid main eventer after Hogan who headlined PPVs with DDP. Curt Hennig, a good US Champ who defended the title on Nitro each week against the likes of Benoit, Malenko, Jarrett, Booker.T, etc. Syxx, great Cruiserweight champ who feuded with Rey and Jericho, though never got his rematch for the belt, either.

Excellent choice. He had the character down. Probably because he actually was an enormous dickhole. Like all lists in professional wrestling, this one begins and ends with Scott-by God-Norton. According to Chavo on Twitter the other day, everyone hated wrestling him!

I think Savage joining was stupid BUT as he usually was....he did an awesome job in the NWO.

Norton, Steiner, Syxx and Bagwell. Along with Hogan, Hall and Nash, that’s a solid group. I don’t know which team I like better though, Vicious and Delicious or Steiner/Bagwell.
