So I came home from work today and checked my E mail and saw I got something from Amazon about my password being changed. This got me worried since I did not change my password recently. Initially I hoped this was just some kind of phishing spam, but when I tried to log onto my account I was unable to.
I changed the password through Amazon's "forgotten password" feature and gave my account the once-over. Nothing was ordered, none of my information was changed. The only thing it seems the hacker did was put up some reviews in my name of two innocuous items I don't own and never ordered. I can only assume that that was some kind of boundaries test.
I checked the credit card that I have saved on that Amazon account, nothing out of the ordinary on it. I've also been checking out some of my other online accounts (Facebook, Grubhub, etc.) to see of there's been any weird activity on them, nothing though. I've been changing passwords where I can.
As near as I can tell I'm doing everything I can to cut off any more problems before they start, but I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something. I'm hoping other people on the boards who have had similar issues in the past might be able to give me some more advice or tell me what else I should look for?
Thanks in advance.

Odd. If they got into your account, you would think they wouldn't want to change the password since it tipped you off and you changed it back immediately. But they also did nothing in this time span. Very confusing hackers.

My mom checked her credit card account statement yesterday, and somehow a charge for Netflix got onto her account. Did someone steal her credit card number and only do Netflix?

Very confusing hackers. Like I said, I assumed it was a boundaries test. They were probably thinking "if we do this minor stuff without him knowing then he's probably not paying too close attention to his account, then we can take him for a mint and it'll be awhile before he even knows it's happening". That's my best guess anyways.

Like I said, boundaries testing. If they buy something small at first, something that she might already be purchasing anyways, like Netflix, and get away with it, then they're gonna assume that you're not paying attention and they can get something bigger down the line without you even realizing it before its too late.
