Pick one artist (from any field) that you feel had more to contribute before their death, just to see what they would have done artistically if they had lived.
Pick one, but honorable mention do count.
For me, Hendrix, always Jimi Hendrix.

Cobain, just because I'm curious how much of a flash in the pan Nirvana would have turned out to be.

Buddy Holly. The amount of songs he wrote and performed that are now standards and he achieved that before he died at just 22.

My immediate instinct is Hank Williams mostly out of curiosity for where he would've gone as an artist if he hadn't died that young, if his son's career would've gone the same way, and honestly the deification of him and ghost story stuff can be kind of obnoxious and that'd probably have prevented that.

Joey Ramone. He created a lot of music with the Ramones, but I would have liked to see where his solo career went.

A lot of people from the 27 Club: Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Mia Zapata, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse. Or the victims of that plane crash: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper.
Also, Tupac or Biggie.

This is a tough question as a lot of artists that died young got more famous because of it. Cobain, just because I'm curious how much of a flash in the pan Nirvana would have turned out to be. It would be interesting to see where they were headed as You Know You're Right sounds completely different to everything else they made.

I think they would've followed the route of the other grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden that got big and get more like mainstream rock as time went on. Maybe they would've turned into what the Foo Fighters are now. I wonder if the Foo Fighters would've even formed if Cobain didn't die. I'm not sure if Nirvana ever got to the point where everyone hated each other and they'd split up. But then Grohl wrote the entirety of the first FF album by himself, more or less.

Yeah, FF was originally just Dave's solo project and was in the works when Nirvana was still around. it probably wouldn't become it's own thing unless Kurt decided to retire as he really didn't want to be a celebrity.

Heath Ledger. He was fully coming into his stride before he died.

Douglas Adams.
I mean, he'd still be working on his next book, but he'd have written a play, several articles and saved 7 species of wildlife purely to avoid his deadlines by now...

Layne Staley, He had the best voice from that seattle scene, and would have loved to have more Alice and Mad Season with him!!
also Terry Kath would be another one I would love to see what he would have come up with as a solo artist since all signs pointed to him leaving Chicago as he was fed up with the ballads and the horns.

It's a toss up between David Bowie and Ronnie James Dio.

Janis Joplin is a good answer. Some people died in their prime, and I don’t want to see them mediocre ever. Some I’m afraid that would’ve happened to. Janis Joplin may have been even more influential than she was if she kept going.

Cobain, just because I'm curious how much of a flash in the pan Nirvana would have turned out to be. I almost guarantee that his shitty attitude and drugged out lifestyle would've lead to them breaking up before the 90's were out. Dave already had a bunch of the first Foo Fighters album worked out when he was still drumming in Nirvana. He would have broken away. For me, it's Cliff Burton. I just can't see him going for all the dumb shit Lars pulled after his death.
