New York: If you see a homeless person outside in this blizzard (the worst in over 15 years) just call 311 to help them get to a shelter. The conditions are so bad, the city called for Code Blue and is picking up those stuck in the cold to bring them to somewhere warm.
Philadelphia: If you see a person who appears to be homeless during a Code Blue, call the City’s Homeless outreach hotline at (215) 232-1984.

Cars are being stranded on the Long Island Expressway.

I'm gonna push this to the top of the page. It's a good cause.

I’ll bump this up a few times randomly over the next couple of days.

If anyone lives in an area having a similar situation right now, then post it here (with any additional numbers if needed) and when I’m next on I can add it to the OP.

Code Blue is enacted during extremely cold conditions, when temperatures feel near or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. During a Code Blue, the City takes special measures to keep people who are homeless safe. These measures include:
24-hour outreach to find people who are homeless and transport them to safe indoor spaces. Opening all available beds within the emergency housing network to people who are homeless. Allowing homeless people to stay inside emergency housing throughout the day. If you see a person who appears to be homeless during a Code Blue, call the City’s Homeless outreach hotline at (215) 232-1984.

I think it says something, either about me as a person or about the world we live in, that I kind of expected the thread title to end with “Don’t let them into your home because they could be dangerous” or something similar.
Good on you, New York. Sometimes it’s nice to be wrong.

Im from New York I lived there for 28 years , one thing I can say for sure is when disaster hits - people come together and help each other out .

And sorry to double post, but I just watched a quick half hour documentary about the harbor evacuation during 9/11, with all the public and private vehicles racing to pick people up and evacuate them. Awesome documentary, and it speaks to your sentiment about NYC.
