They had what 5 or 6 matches on TV. Mania 2 and numerous SNME. Plus Steele was in the Mania 3 storyline. Like why?

The whole beauty and the beast storyline with Elizabeth was really over. It was still overdone though especially once they got a good bit into 87 and were still semi feuding, over a year after their angle started.

I think it was because George was central to developing Elizabeth's character more than anything. He made her more of a focal point. In a time where she did almost no talking, he was an ongoing reminder that she was a nice, sympathetic woman stuck with this unstable heel who didn't treat her well. And Steele specifically was good for the part because he wasn't a handsome, muscular young stud who could have lured her away simply by being physically attractive. He was the hairy weirdo who wanted to give her flowers, and she still was kind to him.
I never felt like it was overdone, especially with them transitioning the main feud to Steamboat by the end of '86. But then again, I'm a big Steele fan.

Also, I remember George Steele mentioning in his shoot that Dick Ebersol loved the angle with him and Savage/Liz which is probably why they got so many matches on SNME as opposed to Savage vs. Tito.

Wasn't it at WM2 that Steele kicked out of the elbow? I always wondered if it was the planned finish or if Steele made a mistake.
In terms of the angle, Steele's kindness and love for Elizabeth also helped show Savage in an even worse light due to how he treated her. A simple angle, but very well done by all concerned.

Back in the day, I was hoping to witness Savage submitting to Steele's flying elbowlock at one of the house shows.

Steele ate turnbuckle pads, while Savage used them to climb to the top rope to deliver his elbow drop. Natural enemies.
