His matches in TNA were always fun, and even though a lot of his booking was lame he still showed some good comedic timing. It was his NJPW and WWE runs where he started to accumulate a more badass aura, and by then I was a more committed fan of his.

In TNA, Styles was the best wrestler or 2nd best wrestler in the world and certainly my favorite wrestler in the world. There were streaks where the company underutilized him. But the appreciation for how freaking good he was was still there.

Growing his hair out helped a lot. He no longer looks like he's costarring in milf porn. Now he just looks like the sleazy director.

Always loved AJ in TNA and was the reason I watched. My worry was that he'd be too small for WWE but I'm glad I was wrong! (Or times have just changed maybe)

even after winning every title and having one of the longest World Title Reign in company history. And he lost the title on a random Impact, in a match with no build, cleanly to RVD who had wrestled 4 matches in 24 hours.

He's the reason I watched TNA in the early/glory days of the x-division. Then some time after his tag run with Daniels I lost interest. Whenever I checked in he was doing something below his level.
So his current run is weird, he's finally being treated as he should be but can't shake the feeling it's all 10 years late.
What I didn't appreciate was his NJPW run, figured it couldn't be as good as the hype, thought it was just a return to form rather than him reaching new heights.

Even 2 years in, I'm still shocked that AJ Styles is even in the company, let alone a 2 time WWE champion, and presented as a huge deal...

I have tried to make a point of posting on here that I was wrong about AJ Styles.
I actually remember him from the latter days of WCW when he looked like a gay porn star and wrestled like a man made of flubber.
All through the years I watched TNA I always found him to be a bland promo and a shitty spot monkey in the ring, so I never really saw much in him. Towards the very end of his TNA run I at least liked his look. I saw none of his New Japan stuff.
The very instant he showed up in the Rumble I knew I had been wrong. He was just oozing charisma and star quality, and bringing the tenure of being in all the other promotions with him, the reality-warping idea of one of TNA's biggest talents showing up against Reigns, it was just a moment in time.
And since that moment, I don't think AJ has once disappointed me except in a weirdly booked Owens match which was neither man's fault for it sucking.
I was wrong about AJ. His WWE run has solidified him as an absolute all-time great.
