I think if they started doing the Rumble winner doesn't main event Mania shit earlier he more than likely would have
2000-20005 were all smart picks so it would have had to been after because even in 1999 when Vince won it still set up Rock vs Austin

And if so then which year? He does have the most elimations after all. Maybe in 2000 or in 2004 when he was still a threat after removing the mask. In 2000, they could have replaced Foley with Kane easily for a spot in the fatal 4 way instead of Foley coming out of retirement after a month. And in 2004 I suppose they could have stripped him of his title match somehow for being so unstable & it would still have lead to Taker vs. Kane at Mania 20, with the triple threat still going on last for the title. 1998, 1999 & 2001 were Austin’s time so it wouldn’t have happened those years.

Had Cena not been able to come back, they could've done it in 2008 and given him a proper feud with Chavo. Like that's someone anywhere in the world would actually want to see, but still.

RR winners have been really meh for the last several years. I would rather see Kane win it than Orton, and Shinsuke is a pipe dream.

Have Kane win the 2004 Rumble and then lose the title shot to Benoit due to Undertaker shenanigans.

The only should in Kane's career is "should he go away?"
And the answer is yes, he should go away.

No. Kane should be remembered as the greatest wrestler never to win a Royal Rumble.
Besides, he has accomplished a lot in the Rumble :
Quickest Elimination (2009)
Most Cumulative Eliminations (1999-2011, 2013-2016)
Most consecutive Rumble appearances (1999-2011)
He has done well for a non-winner.

Nah. I used to think so, because Kane is an all-time Rumble MVP, but so's Kofi and I don't want him winning one either. They only get one of these a year.

That would imply there was ever a year where he deserved to main event Mania, and I struggle to think of one.

Kane doesn’t belong in a Mania main event in my view

Given how little any of the actual storyline leading into X7 was needed for the main event, they could have used some of that time to have Austin end up winning Kane's match opportunity from him. Don't think many would have minded given the love for Austin at the time, but it'd make a good twist that he got that chance thanks to McMahon already having agreed stuff with him.

The problem is you need the Trips fight at NWO to give Austin motivation for his heel turn.
