It still holds the record for longest Rumble performance but he laid around for huge chunks of the match. I think it may be or is approaching having the record of the longest Rumble performance for the longest amount of times (I always forget if anyone beat Flair’s before this).
Anyway, it needs to be broken. I’m hoping someone like Nakamura breaks it this year, but that’s probably a pipe dream.

Yes, it still is the record for longest time in a single Royal Rumble match, but Flair's 1992 time was beaten the very next year by Bob Backlund. That was the long-runner before it was beaten by Chris Benoit in 2004, then Mysterio in 2006.

Anyone got that clip/gif of him throwing up out of the ring towards the end?

Rock was another one that lasted a long time in 1998 though unlike those two he never actually held the record. Anyway, Flair, Backlund, and Benoit all had much better showings than Rey’s 2006 performance (I’d rank them Flair, Benoit, Backlund). Mysterio having the record for this long stinks.

Anyone got that clip/gif of him throwing up out of the ring towards the end? Or the follow up where Triple H is dropped into it?

I think I recall Triple H being #2 or thereabouts and being far more active in the match. Everything about Rey's title run and reign was horribly booked.

At least he did not spend most of the match in the back sleeping.

Yeah, Mysterio wasn't good in there, while Triple H went almost as long and had lots of cool spots.

Rey going an hour in a Rumble is a joke that kills anyone's suspension of disbelief. The dude is way, way too small to last that long when any number of big dudes could just pick him up and toss him in the 5th row. I at least remember Rey and a returning RVD doing some cool tandem moves at one point in that Rumble, showing how good a tag team that could have been had RVD not been hurt in 2005.

I'm still annoyed Rey has the record. Someone beat it in 2018 please. Someone. Anyone. Even The Miz, if need be.

So what everyone is saying is that Rey Mysterio's 2006 Rumble win was the prototype for all of Brock's multi-man matches? Just take a nap for long portions of the match and then come back at the end and win it.

I know I’m in the minority but I feel like if it wasn’t for eddiesploitation, he probably would still be considered on the same level as Kalisto. Pretty good luchadore, but not great on the mike.

I'm actually about to rewatch the 2006 Rumble as part of trying to watch as many Rumbles as I can in January. I did this a couple of years ago too, with the 1988-1997 Rumbles.
So far, the hype video has made a good impression. I like how they tried to incorporate several storylines into the Royal Rumble, and use a highlight video to emphasize this.
Due to current events in Hollywood, the Vince McMahon as a dirty old man segments seem even creepier than they used to be (not to mention being painfully unfunny anyway).
They start things off with the Spirit Squad. Oh boy. Get to see 4 careers killed off with one gimmick (one took a little longer, but inevitably he got there too).

Even without Eddiesploitation I think Rey would be looked on as better than Kalisto. He was a big part of the glorious crusierweight division of the Monday night wars and a member of the Smackdown Six. I agree that he wasn't that great of a promo but then Jeff Hardy is an even worse promo and people love him. I just don't think Kalisto has ever come close to being as over as Rey was at his height in either company. Even when he was surrounded by fantastic luchadores he was a standout. That said I think his world title run is one of the worst ever.
