So, listening to the news this morning and I hear about a concert going on in Vancouver (BC, Canada) that's a Bowie tribute, with proceeds going towards this one particular cancer care facility. Isn't that a nice idea? So I thought, "If someone was to organize this on a national or world-wide level, who would be on it and what song (or songs) would they do?"
So I put the question to you readers: who do you think would appear in a Bowie tribute concert or on a Bowie tribute album, and what songs would they perform?
So far, I have three...
1) "Fashion", Lady Gaga. This is more a nod to her style and connection to the fashion world, but I think she'd be able to do a good version.
2) "Fame", Bruno Mars. The song has a funk edge that I think would match well with Mars' music.
3) "Modern Love", Foo Fighters. A stronger drum beat, a more 'rock-n-roll' song... I can easily picture Grohl belting this song out.

I could see U2 doing a cover of "Heroes" (and yes, I know about the Wallflowers cover). Marilyn Manson could probably do a cover of Ashes to Ashes (likely much more darker musically). Of course, that begs the question, who covers Space Oddity?

Of course, that begs the question, who covers Space Oddity? Much as I dislike their stuff, Muse would probably do a decent job.

Get an all-star ensemble to back Michael C. Hall for a third version of Lazarus.
I can't stand them, but you'd have to get Flaming Lips on there, something from Ziggy or Aladdin Sane probably.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross can try and rescue one of his 90s abominations close to the end of the tracklist.
Get Pixies in to cover something from Heathen as a nod to Bowie covering Cactus. You know they'd be able to turn something completely inside out.
Bowie loved Sonic Youth, too, but they're broken up now, so maybe get Thurston or Kim solo to do something like TVC15.
In the more left-field choices, I think The Horrors could do Where Are We Now? Someone incredibly pop-focused to do Let's Dance, even if it was someone like Justin Timberlake, and I'm really not joking.

Maybe a weird choice, but I've seen Adam Lambert cover Let's Dance and really liked it. Placebo covering Rebel Rebel would be interesting too - Bowie was a big supporter of them in their early days.

Probably not the first band anyone would think of (especially over 2 decades from their last success), but I feel like Babylon Zoo would have done really well with some of Bowie's material. They were the closest thing to Bowie's intergalactic glam in the 90s.

I was never a huge Bowie fan (HUGE appreciator of his contributions to music, fashion, and entertainment in general, just never got heavy on him), so I couldn't pinpoint an exact song or era for them to cover, but I feel like Modest Mouse could do a damn fine job on just about any of his stuff.
