Was up with that run in 2006?
Animal drops all the LOAD lineage to go painless with leather pants, vest and tank top.
So was this suppose to be a mega push or something? Why piss on the one thing you are known for?
There had to be plans for a US title run? Or even challenging Batista or something?
This run made no sense after his successful 2005 run.

I honestly think it was one of his brother's grand ideas, and at the time, Joe was all "screw this, but at least I get paid, so whatever".
I guess they wanted him to be that elder roadblock in the midcard, but Finlay beat him out there.

Yeah, that was weird. It was so brief, and it never even felt like it was going to go anywhere. At least he wrapped it up later by becoming Animal again to take on Heath Slater on Smackdown.

Not entirely sure.
Probably just there to be a veteran hand for the midcard like others have.
Since originally he was doing that for tag teams, including helping Heidenreich didn't lead anywhere due to Heidenreich leaving after Hurricane Katrina.

I just remember his 'debut' where the badass brawler won with brass knucks then got caught and the decision was reversed. Who thought that would get freaking Animal over?

His titantron for this run is 1 I'd put up there with David Flair's titantron

Wasn't he supposed to win the WrestleMania 22 battle royal but accidentally fell to the floor?

From my understanding, "the office" wasn't keen on pushing Road Warrior Animal as a solo act - he was by that point too connected to the tag team in that particular gimmick and they felt it didn't work without both of them. They gave him a chance to do a solo gimmick instead and he opted to go with an updated version of his original pre-LOD gimmick.

I'm just going to leave this here. Yeah its really hard to not get the impression that his brother was just throwing him a bone with this one.

Wasn't he supposed to win the WrestleMania 22 battle royal but accidentally fell to the floor? Yes, it was in Chicago, RAW vs Smackdown so WWE obviously didn't want anyone else to win it because Animal may as well be a god in Chicago. He was given the 3 vs 1 basically Underdog Face comeback. Unfortunately, Snitsky and him screwed up the elimination spot and he fell to the floor leaving Snitsky and Viscera as the final two. He is visibly upset as the entire crowd gets extremely upset as Viscera calls an audible and wins the match, luckily Viscera was super over so the crowd didn't turn on him that much. So Animal's only accolade he would have won in this gimmick, which may have helped lead to a midcard push, didn't happen, not to say it would have anyway, this gimmick was terrible.

I had always heard that it was one of those cases of the WWE fearing that their fan base would become confused if they had to distinguish between “The Animal” Batista and “Animal” the Road Warrior, so they had him start going by just “Road Warrior”.
I actually sort of liked him when he was doing this gimmick. I knew it wasn’t going anywhere, but I sort of dug the old gritty biker look. I could have seen him as a good Gatekeeper type.

At that point, a payday was all Animal cared about I assume. Same with Tatanka the year previous.

It was probably a better look for him. He looked like a midget with a beer gut in his LOD gear at this time.

He was Road Warrior Animal for months before hand. As stated earlier they probably had the feeling that Road Warrior Animal is a tag guy due to being one half of a legendary tag team. They just tried the new member of the LoD so there was really nothing else to do with him in the tag division so they tried to put him in the midcard as a Midcard legend to help the younger guys work.

Yeah, I remember him teaming with Heidenrich and everything. I just remember the “newz” at the time being they wanted to drop the Animal part of his name to distinguish him from Batista.
