Longtime Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis's first published work under his long-term DC-exclusive contract will be a backup story in Action Comics #1000, featuring art by DC co-publisher Jim Lee, ComicBook.com has learned. The issue, which represents the first time a major American superhero comic has reached the 1,000-issue milestone, will be an over-sized extravaganza with a main feature by writer Dan Jurgens, who took over Action Comics with #957 at the start of the Rebirth initiative in 2016; and another by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, who took over Superman at that same time. The rest of the book is a star-studded tribute to eighty years of Superman storytelling. Besides Action Comics #1000, DC will release a hardcover collection, Action Comics #1000: 80 Years of Superman, which will retail at $29.99 and feature over 300 pages, with a blend of new and reprinted content. DC had no comment for this story. comicbook.com/dc/2018/01/11/brian-michael-bendis-first-dc-comics-work-revealed-superman-action-comics/

the backup story in Action comics 1000 not Action Comics 1000's main story.
So it's unlikely he's staying on Supes after this.

They’re just getting star names to do Superman stories which is cool. It’s not different to when people like Gail Simone did the Deadpool special mostly because she’s a big enough name but also had a run herself on the title. Jurgens still seems to have stories to tell in this book so he’ll probably have to be pried from it at this point.

Conway still seems to have stories to tell in this book so he’ll probably have to be pried from it at this point. and then Gail Simone stole credit for the next story because she was a mad woman! (the original print mistakenly labeled the story after hers as also being Gail's... which she said was totally intentional on twitter )

(This sorta thing has happened before - IIRC, JMS started his "year long run" with Wonder Woman years back with a backup in #600 that led into his first proper issue #601) I would imagine the fanbase (myself included) would be pretty ticked if they removed Jurgens - aka The Man Who Killed Superman, whose history with the character started in the late '80s - from ACTION with #999 and put Bendis on #1000.

If they make Bendis main writer of Action then I'm dropping it.
