My boss just gave me the company credit card and told me to buy a bottle of wine and The Crown on DVD, so I can watch it on the weekend and catch up to what he's seen by Monday. (I guess this is the adult version of homework...)
I'm wondering whether to get it, or to 'forget'. Has anyone here watched it? What were your thoughts?

I watched it on Netflix. I've liked it, it's fine.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. (Also, I just googled J Peterman and found a gloriously insane quote on his wikipedia page:
"When a man puts on this authentic French farmer's shirt he may very well find that his hands look bigger....Is that woman over there giving him the eye and nodding toward the haystack? Yes, and he knows what to do."
What. The. f***.)

If you like historical TV shows, definitely watch it. Season 1's quite good and season 2 (after a slightly slow start) might...actually be better.
If you don't like historical TV shows.........well, just watch it thinking Dr. Who is masquerading as Prince Phillip and being a dick about it.
If you don't like historical TV shows or Doctor Who, I don't know how to help you. ;p

I do like historical tv shows, and I really liked Matt Smith as the Doctor, but for some reason I've found him weirdly off-putting (no idea why) in the few publicity things I've seen for the Crown, which is why I've kind of avoided it until now.

Oh, then I would definitely give this a watch. Smith carries himself very well, much more differently than I had expected as well. In fact I think the farther along in the timeline they get (they’re in the 1960’s in s2) the better he is. If he’s off putting its because his portrayal of the man....kinda has to be. Claire Foy is the star attraction of this show, by far, but Smith picks up his game VERY well & keeps up as it goes on.
