I've been on a Gremlins and Gremlins 2 kick recently, re-watched the movies and watched a lot of youtube reviews, and I noticed a pattern. All the reviews (and commentaries) blame Billy Peltzer for the gremlins. This was starting to get me pretty mad. In the first movie, Billy's goofy friend Pete is actually the one to spill the water on Gizmo. The new Mogwai then very slyly tricked Billy into feeding them after midnight (he checked his clock, and it was before midnight...but he didn't know the Mogwai had managed to cut the plug so that it stayed on the same time.). Finally, Gizmo is the one who exposed Stripe (NOT SPIKE...which so many reviews kept getting wrong!) to sunlight, but by that time it was a good thing anyway.
In the second movie, it was Gizmo's own stupidity that got him wet (he left the drawer Billy told him to stay in so that he could...play around or something I guess). With the exception of Daffy, Billy was completely unaware of the new Mogwai, and Billy had Daffy under control until that idiot security guard interfered. Finally Billy killed all the gremlins by exposing them to the electrical gremlin while they were wet (again, by this time it was a good thing).
Therefore, I declare Mr. William Peltzer innocent of all wrong doings! He did not behave "irresponsibly" at any point in the two movies (well, maybe he shouldn't have left Gizmo alone in the second movie, but he was sort of in a jam and Gizmo should have known better anyway) and over all shares zero blame in the two gremlin out breaks! Case dismissed!

Feels like so many problems could've been avoided with a warning of "don't EVER feed them after midnight...because they turn into scaly, murderous little imp monsters". Maybe the kid figured Mr. Peltzer wouldn't believe him.
Also fascinating to look back and see how much darker the original script for the first movie was going to be.

You left out Hulk Hogan destroying an innocent bucket of popcorn in the second movie. He still hasnt been brought to justice.

I mean that also brings up things like... isn't any time technically after midnight... and... does that include daylight savings time or... what? but yeah... giving a little more information than just the vague "Don't feed them after midnight" "Don't get them wet" and "Don't expose them to bright light" might have helped.

I've never even see these movies and I get massively annoyed at the "after midnight" thing because it is utter nonsense. Depending on how you interpret it, there is either no such thing as "after midnight" or all time is after midnight. It's one of those things that drive me crazy because it's so blatant and in this case, a massive plot hole, yet nobody ever seems to bring it up.

My answer to that has always been "it's basically a fairy tale", so phrases like "after midnight" usually imply things about the "weird" hours of the night, when strange and/or supernatural things might happen. I just figure it's pretty much wherever you live, don't feed them between midnight and sunrise. And if you live in northern Alaska and it's just dark for an entire month then, uh...um...move?

I was only thinking of Billy Peltzer yesterday, and wondering what became of the actor who played him - Zach Gallagher, was it?
I know I could look on Wikipedia, but it was only a passing thought.

Galligan, but you had the gist.
If anything, Mr. Peltzer was the one at fault for not listening to Mr. Wing in the first place. It's why Wing came back and got Gizmo at the end of the first movie.

BTW, in Alaska, they would be screwed because they can't get wet (yet they walk through snow and drink water-based beer. Also, how do they drink if they can't get wet? Furthermore, why did that jackass old man run back in his house instead of his HUGE open field around him when being chased by a gremlin).

Mr Wing's grandson is to blame for everything. Moreso cause he admitted to doing it for the money.

In the second film, Mr Wing should have accepted Daniel Clamp's offer, which was indeed very generous. He would have given him a nice little store in his new Chinatown project, which honestly looked awesome. Clamp even gave him a free TV and his scientists even treated Gizmo pretty well until Count Dooku decided to dissect him.

I love how they call out that rule in the second movie. But the second movie is essentially a black comedy that pokes fun at itself.

I'm to the point where I think it's better than the first one. The gremlins have more character, it's better lit so you can see all the goofy gags, it constantly breaks the fourth wall, ect.
