Alien Cov didn't even seem to know what the hell kind of movie it wanted to be. Half the plot points and character traits felt like they were decided with dice rolls. And having amazing CGI next to garbage CGI drove me crazy. It was actually infuriating to me.
At last Monster Trucks knew exactly the kind of movie it was.

That's one factor Roger Ebert would use to analyze movies - how much a movie succeeds at trying to be what it aims to be. In practice, this resulted in some absurdities in his reviews like him calling The Mummy 3 the best of the trilogy.

I get what Aronofsky was trying to do with Mother!, but he tried too hard to be alienating towards the audience. If that makes sense.

I freaking loved "Mother!" I went into it with no expectations and was blown away by how much fun I had.*
* - I don't think that was the point of the movie, but man, those scenes where complete strangers just keep barreling into the house totally unannounced had me in stitches.

Good list. I'm hoping to see about 100 movies in 2018 now that I have Moviepass. I also checked out your Top Films of 2017 list and agree with most. Just for comparison sake, here were my top 10 films from 2017.
10. Star Wars: The Last Jedi 9. Raw 8. The Big Sick 7. The Greatest Showman 6. Get Out 5. Thor: Ragnarok 4. Logan 3. Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. The Disaster Artist 1. Baby Driver

Baby Driver You will also want I think both the Netflix streaming service and dvd service so I can normally just get one of these films, watch it, and return it the next day with only a 3 day wait at least for the next one. Sometimes I've seen two or three movies of that year in one day. I guess you could say I'm kind of a cinephile, but I don't need to own every movie so it's not THAT BAD. There are sacrifices that have to be made so I don't watch much of TV series or streamed series. I will admit because of the movie I normally look for to watch, that I sadly will normally see something bad. But seeing the crap I have seen this year does put into perspective some of the worst films on many people's list of worst this year and I have a sad laugh.
