If the only thing a Network plays are reruns of years-old originals and Cops, the writing is on the wall that its on the way out. It happened previously with G4, so I assumed it was going to meet its end sooner than later.

It was TNN then and it was a pretty different channel from what Spike became, iirc at the time they were the Nashville Network. then they became the National Network (About the time WWE showed up) before swapping to Spike. Right you are, Kenny! But I remember as a kid seeing the Grand Ol' Opry and some line dancing show (Soul Train for White people?) non-stop on TNN. But what else - if anything - did they air before expanding with ECW and the like? Vaguely recall a monster truck program, too? (Also, wasn't Deadliest Warrior on that channel recently? Or was that G4?)

Deadliest Warrior was on Spike.
I believe a Spike original.

When it became Spike, it did give us this: Let that sink in. I mean, yes, Stripperella was bad, but I didn't mind it. This show, however, made me realize that the original version of R&S was good as it was. There was also Gary the rat. It was about a guy who was turned into a rat. THAT'S THE JOKE. Out of all of the shows that were on that block, this was the only one that I DIDN'T watch. I watched a couple of episodes of Stripperella, which was cheesy, but sort of passable. I only watched maybe two episodes of Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon when they aired and the rest on Netflix (Out of curiosity, mainly) and I found that version to be terrible. Gary The Rat, on the other hand, I never watched it, but I did watch the TV Trash episode on it, which made me see that it was truly a bad show.

Yes, this show was terrible, but "Ren Seeks Help" still ranks as one of my favorite animated episodes of anything. It's pure bile fascination, and I haven't seen it in years, but I loved it at the time.

Man, I would pay anything for the last broadcast of Spike to have a video like this but with clips of the shows they had in the past, music and all. Reminds me how UPN got NOTHING. Think it just got pulled with a whimper due to making the deal to form the CW. Was there any on air switch? Which reminds me of: Apparently, they just aired Smackdown from 8-10 on September 15th, 2006 and ended without much fanfare not long after.

So of course I youtubed old episodes of MXC. When does 2000's nostalgia kick off? We need a revival.

Any transition montage or graphic between Spike and Paramount?

One thing that I still remember to this day is that when Raw was going back to the USA Network, actually, around the time of the homecoming, Spike TV aired the UFC Ultimate Fight Night on the same night as the Raw Homecoming. Spike TV promoted the UFC Ultimate Fight Night with few jabs at wrestling, talking about how it was all real and there were no storylines. Which was stupid, considering that same week, TNA Impact debuted, and TNA was more watchable in 2005.
