Didn't Regal make a comment in the UK once about (I think) Tony Blair and the place cheered? I could be wrong, I feel like it happened maybe on one of the UK only PPVs back in 2000 or 01.

I don't find it that odd. I work at a place where there are many different Rooting interests and shit talking each other's favorite sports teams using whatever weak arguments we can dream up is at least half of what we talk about. Including work related talk.

I've always wanted a heel to visit a town that recently won a major championship and criticize a lower end sport they performed poorly in. Like if the Patriots win the super bowl this year, a heel should visit Boston and make fun of the local college women's division 2 volleyball team for having a losing record. or if they're in a town with really low self esteem and the crowd AGREES they suck.

I went to a Raw in Green Bay the night after the Packers lost the 4th and 26 game in January 2004 (famous among football fans). When they showed some Packers on the screen after the commercial break, there was a sizeable groan from a large part of the crowd.

I may be dead wrong, but I don't think current wrestling fans are as knowledgeable about football teams as the WWE seems to think they are. I've been a wrestling fan for over 30 years, and little else. I know the team names and where they're from, but that's about it.

This sounds like gold, I would love for some smartass midcard heel to do this. I love how this works in the UK. "Manchester United suck!" *crowd cheers* "Man City suck!" *more cheers* "England sucks" *loudest pop of the night* "You people are f***ing weird" *'Yes we are' chant starts* Didn't Regal make a comment in the UK once about (I think) Tony Blair and the place cheered? I could be wrong, I feel like it happened maybe on one of the UK only PPVs back in 2000 or 01. If this happened, it must have been written for Regal, because he would definitely have known that it wouldn't get over.

I recall Angle visiting Pittsburgh once and he got HUGE cheers whenever he badmouthed any of the local sports teams and he just shrugged it off. One of the best homecomings ever.

For me, you can't beat Heenan's "The best part about ( city name) is the airport, I can leave"

Not a sports team, but Kurt Angle bringing up disgraced Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson in Canada.

Always a huge fan of Edge & Christian running down whatever place they were in. A mispronunced city only added to the hate before a 5 second pose. Good times.

I just love it when the crowd cheers and approves of what the heel is saying depend on who the heel is.

Nothing beats when Rock said "I'll be sure to come back when The Lakers beat the Kings in May!" in Sacramento I've never heard such bloodthirsty heat over a Sports Team reference before or since. . His promo in Toronto that year: “...stronger than a bear, faster than a buck, the biggest thing to hit Canada CAUSE THE MAPLE LEAFS SUCK!” Received the “asshole” chant.

It does seem weird to me, but I'm not a sports fan so I just don't have the same type of loyalty or emotional attachment to a sports team. It's to the point where once it starts, I just kinda groan. But, then... it does get a reaction so it serves its function. You get me, you REALLY get me!

For me, you can't beat Heenan's "The best part about ( city name) is the airport, I can leave" I always liked Heenan’s: “of course (INSERT TOWN) is where they invented the toothbrush. Had it been invented anywhere else it would have been called the teethbrush.”

I may be dead wrong, but I don't think current wrestling fans are as knowledgeable about football teams as the WWE seems to think they are. Yeah. Obviously everyone is an individual, but modern wrestling fans seem to be more the comic book nerd/genre show watching type than sports fans.
