Today marks it for me. I have to admit, I am feeling pretty discouraged and depressed. I never expected it to last this long. I don’t like being idle and having nothing to do, and I don’t like feeling like a sponge. Part of why my drinking increased to the point I felt I need help is because I had nothing else to fill my time. I’ve gone on plenty of interviews and no actual offers-what are they not seeing? I am not on the verge of bankruptcy by any means, at least not yet. But its still beyond frustrating to have gone this long. Anyone else had this experience?

I've been there more than once , not a good feeling at all . Only advice I have is check with your local temp agencies , they can put to work pretty quick with half way decent pay . I would say it is a step up from collecting unemployment

Went through this just 2 years ago. I had to leave a job due to not being able to work time off to be with my family, and ended up not being to get hired again for the entirety of 2015. I couldn't collect unemployment because I had voluntarily quit, all I had to work off of was my 401K from my last job which I had to cash out. Had to ask my parents for money to keep a roof over my head for a few months, and then had to move in with them, which I hated. Lived with them for almost a year, I hated feeling like I was sponging off them for as long as I did. Finally was able to get a P/T job at a Big Lots having to go in at 4 in the morning with no car, then a job as a barista at the local coffee shop, and then finally lucked into a job back in my line of work after sending out resumes and hearing back almost nothing from anyone. In hindsight, I felt even worse because my mom had major health problems last year, and I kept thinking that my being home could have contributed to her stress and could have made things worse. Right now, I'm dealing with my girlfriend going through the same thing as well because she lost her job last year and has had little luck. It's rough, man, but you gotta keep swinging, because you never know what could come down the path.

I know how you feel, man. It absolutely sucks.
All I can say is keep searching. Anything would be better than unemployment since I'm currently having to pay the state back in spite of not having any work.

I love visiting the US but it seems like bad place to be a working man.
Best of luck, idleness truly sucks.

I was actually unemployed since May. We got laid off at my last job. I focused on school and was unable to find a job while on unemployment, but that recently ran out. I ended up doing a bit of freelance stuff on UpWork, including proofreading and writing a script. That didn't get me a ton, but I just started a writing job on Monday. I know it's tough, but something good will happen. You just gotta keep pushing.

It takes a while to get momentum, but there are LOTS of gigs you can do online to make money that are legitimate, which may also help in taking up some of your excess free time. My wife and I have been at the online stuff for a while now, but we're at the point that we're both considered self-employed and making our income entirely in this way. It's not always consistent, but it may help. I don't want to violate any rules, so if you want some info, PM me.

Keep your chin up. A few years back I was made redundant (without a payout) two months before Christmas. I interviewed for everything I was vaguely qualified for, but didn't get a new job for months. It's tough finding work over the holidays too, a lot of companies stop hiring in November and don't start again until Feb/March. Hopefully things will pick up for you soon.
And try not to feel discouraged that they're not seeing your good qualities - I used to work for a recruitment agency, and we'd get literally hundreds of applications for each role. Just getting selected for an interview means you're doing something right; I can't tell you the number of people I had to notify that they didn't get a job, and there was genuinely nothing wrong with them. They were fantastic candidates, and the recruiter's decision would end up coming down to the smallest, most random things like picking the person who'd previously worked for a company they admired, or which one lived closer to the office/work site because otherwise there was nothing between their top choices.
Having said that, a word of advice - try your best to apply directly with employers and avoid recruitment agencies if you can. They are, by and large, amoral scum.

Recruiters really suck, but if you need work, it might be best to look into them.

Right now, the Park Service, Forest Service, and many other agencies are hiring for the summer season.
USAjobs is the site to check out for those.

I've been at the current job I have for ten years. Living where I live the job market is just extremely tough and those who have jobs aren't leaving because of how hard it is. It took me four years to find a job and a friend of mine who worked at the theatre was loved about the hiring manager, he asked me if I wanted a job, and I was hired that day. As I said, been there for ten years and my eleventh year will be the 23rd of February next month.
These days it's really about who you know and I find it's best to just start finding ways to build connections.

Would job sites like monster sand Glassdoor count? No, they're fine. It's only the recruitment agencies where they're advertising & pre-screening people on behalf of the employer that I avoid. It's also worth looking around though; when you apply for jobs through sites like Monster, you're competing with huge numbers of people who also use that site. Go to the webpage of local companies, or ones you'd like to work for, and look for job vacancies. A decent number of businesses will have jobs or 'you want to work for us?' pages on their website. My experience has been (both as a job-seeker, and someone who worked for a recruitment agency) that you have a MUCH better shot at getting a job if you're dealing directly with the employer from the get-go, rather than via an agency. (ETA: I'm not saying avoid recruitment agencies at all cost; if you see a job through an agency and want to apply, go for it. Just try to apply for other jobs directly as well, so a recruitment agency isn't your only hope.)

I am trying to find a better job for the last two years, my seizures and anxiety make it hard to find anything because I am not allowed to drive and public transit on Long Island is shit. Try a supermarket or retail just for something in the mean time

If you guys collect unemployment insurance you have to pay the state back? If the state believes they paid you more than you deserved, you must pay them all back. And you can't appeal it.
