Not sure but what about Foley or A.J. Styles. Foley would've if not for storyline heel chicanery by Vince. Styles did though. If we're talking WWE only, no Styles didn't. He had those two Roman matches that helped introduce Gallows and Anderson before he won from Ambrose later in the year. WWE only, I think Hogan counts but he may have had shots in his pre-AWA heel run. |

Edge had a match against Lesnar at a UK PPV in 2002, was in a triple threat with Benoit where they both tapped out HHH at the same time which resulted in the title being vacated, and was then part of the Elimination Chamber match for the vacated title.

Eddie as I don’t believe he’s recieved a title shot before that. Eddie got a shot at Rock's WWE title in 2002 on Raw. Edge to my knowledge never had a single World Title match before his cash-in. I remember hhhearing that politics may have been involved. Miz I don’t think so, but Edge has had some WHC title shots in the past, I dunno about Wwe championship though. Edge vs. Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman for the WWE title happened at Rebellion 2002. |

From a WWF standpoint did Hogan ever challenge for the title before his match with the Iron Shiek? I’m aware he didn’t win the belt from Bockwinkle in the AWA. I’m also pretty sure Warrior would fall into this category.

Even before that, the Rumble he debuted in was for the world title that year, not the title shot. True which would also disqualify a lot of other people on this list. And for that matter the 1992 Royal Rumble list as well. |

The one I've seen is kind of amazing, as Bob Backlund comes across as freakishly strong in it. |

And the match that Edge won the #1 Contender spot in had Lita turning heel to align with him. He lost the title match against Batista the next week. |
