Did anyone enjoy Jeff Jarrett as WCW Champion?

I don't want this to be a thread that is negative on this, so is there anyone else out there who enjoyed Jarrett as WCW Champion? Or any specific title reign of the 4 runs?

He was a 4 time champion and here are his reigns:

Jeff Jarrett (1) - April 8, 2000 - 8 Days
Jeff Jarrett (2) - May 7, 2000 - 8 Days
Jeff Jarrett (3) - May 22, 2000 - 1 Day
Jeff Jarrett (4) - May 29, 2000 - 41 Days

I wonder how much better he could've done with an extended run with the World title as his first 3 reigns did not last long. In 2001, if WCW remained, would he re-enter the World Title picture?

I remember in between Russo's two runs in WCW Jarrett had a feud with Sid over the World Title. Now granted, this was a very low point in WCW history, but during this Jarrett started building some genuine momentum as a potential champion. Then Russo returned, and despite giving Jarrett the World Title actually wound up killing all of Jarrett's heat by doing what Russo does best - booking himself as being more important to the show then any actual wrestler on it.

He was s'alright. Booker and Steiner were better champion material, but Jarrett was decent enough for what was for all intents and purposes a second-rate company.

I thought of him as a WWF midcarder, but I began to actually buy him in his role after a while. The funny thing is...I remember him being champion for a -lot- longer.

Yeah, this. I think it's an unfortunate bit of revisionist history that says Jeff Jarrett was atrocious as a WCW main eventer. I'm not quite sure when it happened. It seems that Vince's "firing" of Jarrett on the night of the final Nitro and the "broke a thousand guitars, never drew a dime" quote just seem to have stuck to him and defined the present's perception of the past. Granted, he didn't do himself any favors by booking himself into long, dreadful reigns as NWA Champion in TNA, but that shouldn't detract from his last run as a WCW wrestler.

At the time, especially during Kevin Sullivan's "book WCW like it was 1993" stint that drove off the Radicalz, people desperately wanted Jarrett to take the belt. And honestly, his Attitude Era/Don't Piss Me Off/Slapnuts persona was fairly over in both companies. So yeah, I enjoyed Jarrett as WCW Champion. It was a hell of a lot better than Hogan, Savage, Flair, and even heel DDP, all who had held the belt less than a year before him and all reeked of midlife crisis or atrocious booking. Jarrett's brief, fragmented runs were certainly not well booked, but he was fresh and entertaining at the time and I gladly accepted that as a beaten down WCW fan.

Jerry Jarrett in his rf shoot interview said that in his opinion, his son Jeff, was never a main eventer. That's says it all. Also in Jerry's book about the early days of tna, Russo confided in Jerry that in his opinion Jeff wasn't a top guy.

Then, now, and forever, Jeff Jarrett broke six thousands guitars, never drew a dime.

Jeff Jarrett peaked well after WWF/WCW days and one of the worst things to do is to rate his career through WWF/WCW prism. His TNA stuff with Karen is absolute gold and verification that he is indeed main event material. Jarret/Karen duo owns pretty much whole current WWE main event roster when it comes to E part in WWE.

I didn't mind, tbh. Given the lack of a Booker T push (he went from GI Bro to World Champion in about 2 hours after 9 months of doing f*** all) which meant I just couldn't take to him as a main eventer for years after, Jarrett, DDP and Sid were the only WCW World Champions I actually liked that year, given Flair and Nash didn't have the belt long enough for me to notice.

Jeff Jarrett's time as WCW Champion is kind of hard to judge, since the entire show was crap at that point. Usually in wrestling, since there are so many angles going on at one time, you can pick out the good from the bad, but WCW circa 2000 was just overall a dumpster fire. Like I wish I could go back in time and tell myself, "quit watching this garbage every week. It's not going to get any better. In a few years compilation DVDs will be a thing and you can watch plenty of good wrestling".

So anyways, in order to judge Jarrett as a world champion I look to TNA instead, where I think he was okay at first, but like Lesnar's current run, he was unstoppable for too long. Jarrett retaining over Monty Brown was a stupid idea. I think Monty Brown could have been a top babyface for TNA if pushed correctly. Even if it seemed like he wasn't ready, so what? Put the belt on him anyway and see what happens.
