When the Eagles and Patriots met in SB 39, there was a lot of interest and intrigue for that, a SB matchup many wanted.
Now, it’s like the opposite.
How did this go from the interesting combination people wanted back in the day to the least interesting?
I mean, the Eagles aren’t exactly been there done that when it comes to SB appearances (considering their shaky history in NFC CG’s under Andy Reid)

I mean, the Eagles aren’t exactly been there done that when it comes to SB appearances (considering their shaky history in NFC CG’s under Andy Reid) Guessing for 2 reasons: 1. Most people outside of Philly wanted the Vikings to win and for a team to finally host the Super Bowl at home. 2. Few people want to admit that Nick Foles is indeed a good quarterback that is indeed capable of winning this game.

Two thoughts: 1. Why is everybody angry? Yes the Patriots make it every year but every Patriots Super Bowl has at least been exciting. Even before Brady you had the '85 Bears having the most entertaining blow out ever and Super Bowl XXXI was the worst of their ten and even then there was an amazing Desmond Howard return touchdown. They are the Four Horsemen of the NFL for a reason (Brady as Flair, Lewis and White as the Andersons, Gronk as Blanchard, and Belichek as Dillon). and Pats fans basically planning the parade like they’ve already won the Super Bowl. You know, you keep pushing this narrative, but I'm *telling* you as a Patriots fan, most of us were NOT taking Jacksonville lightly this past week. Some of the Sportts radio guys around here were, but most fans I talked to anyway, were very wary of Jacksonville. Speaking right now just for me, Philly is scary. I expect a complete dogfight.

Yeah lolBrady wins but this is a really great Eagles team and Nick Foles can be a pretty great NFL quarterback when he's confident as he showed today. Let the record show I was the first person in this thread to vote that the Eagles will win. Well for point 1, the Patriots are a forgone conclusion at this point. Outside of the obvious of their current regime's history, there is the fact that even before the season started, the Pats were favorites to repeat. If you aren't a Patriots fan, and especially if you are a Colts fan, who not only had a great team that was stopped by the Pats many times, but then had to watch them surpass your team to the point there was NO chance of catching them, it gets old fast. Brady and Belichick's legacy is already set, now this is just becoming redundant. Point 2, I actually think the Eagles are a better team than the credit they are getting. But, the Pats have no problem beating great teams. The Seahawks were a very good team that looked to be building a legacy of their own, yet they forgot to run the ball on the 1 yard line with one of the best running backs in the league. The Rams were considered the best football team in the league at the time. The Eagles that got there last time, had more "big name" talent and were considered the best of the NFC at the time. The Falcons had a ridiculous offense with talented players all over the field and a solid defense. The only team I think that the Patriots really were supposed to beat was the Panthers. So yeah, at this point it really doesn't matter who the other team is, unless it's the Giants getting a "dumb luck" run in the playoffs, the Patriots aren't beating a lot of "underdogs" that didn't belong in the Super Bowl.

Exactly. All of the Patriots fans I know (including myself) thrive when people doubt us. We don't have to be the underdog per se in Vegas, but whether it be if we can take down Peyton or the Legion of Boom, we love the idea that tons of people out there are doubting us. The games that make us feel most uncomfortable are when everyone expects us to dominate. At that point, all we can do is meet expectations. But we will keep thinking about all the ways we can lose (which is why the game vs. the Jags worried me so much). We think about how awful it will be to wake up the next day after losing a game we should have won. That is why the 16-0 season created more anxiety than excitement for a lot of people. And I will not diminish all of our success because it is more than most teams will ever have, but the times where we've come up short have been agonizing and has created a sense of worry in almost any big game (such as both Giants games, the Colts AFC Championship, the Jets divisional game). Trust me, we have been upset enough to know that no game is a gimme.

Rooting for the Patriots here.
I expect Philly to be a tough opponent. The Patriots can't afford to use the same strategy(ies) that they used against Jacksonville. They really need to put points on the board and on point.

Unless he thinks he can threepeat or pass PIT for most SB's, what else DOES he have left to prove? Supposedly he said he still wants to play at 50 years old. So there's that. I don't think Belichick will stay around for that long. I don't want Tom to retire until the right moves have transpired and they're totally ready for post-Tom.

Except, sometimes, the NFL makes it difficult, if not impossible, to dethrone the Patriots. Look, Blake Bortles is a terrible QB, but only getting one penalty in a very physical game is suspicious.

My question is, what do you want the Patriots to do? Go 0-16? It's not going to happen. It's up to the rest of the NFL to dethrone the Patriots instead of whining. How do you go from being sick of the Patriots being in the Super Bowl to wanting them to be 0-16? That's a little ridiculous. I'm sure it's fun for Patriots fans and they should enjoy this ride, because what they are witnessing is historic and nothing lasts forever. But even from a legacy standpoint, Belichick and Brady have almost nothing left to prove. The fact that the Patriots did it in the salary cap era, already puts them above the 49ers of the 80s/90s, the 90s Cowboys and the 70s Steelers. The real problem is it has become even harder to beat the Patriots, because there really aren't any powerhouse teams. Just watching the season, it was the Patriots and then everyone else. The Packers could be there if they did a better job of building around Rodgers. The Pats have the Steelers number, the Seahawks weren't able to maintain and Drew Brees is getting older. If you really look at it, Peyton Manning really was Larry Bird to Tom Brady as Magic Johnson. So now that Manning is gone, it isn't as fun and we are going to have to wait until the next great QB/team emerges that can overthrow them. Personally, I see Brady either retiring or declining greatly before that happens.

Cheese steak, Cheese steak, Cheese steak references everywhere. That's not the only Philly sandwich. Roast pork with broccoli rabe. Come on now.

They need to get into Brady's head by cutting Terry Funk's promos all game long.
"Hey Brady! Your wife's a whore!" Nothing "Hey Brady! Hey Brady! Your kids are bastards!" Nothing "Hey Brady! Your TB12 gym sucks." A fight breaks out.

I love how the crowd went "ooohhhh" like trying to goad Foley into fighting Funk. "Hey Brady. If I had a head like that I've had it circumcised."

Wonder if the Patriots will elect to wear their white jerseys? Idk if anyone else noticed, but with the exception of Green Bay in super bowl 45, everyteam That has won the Super Bowl since the patriots in 38, has been the team wearing white.
