I was having problems breathing, especially at night, my third year of college. Went to my pediatrician who I had been seeing since I was a little kid, and he said it was just bad allergies. Then I nearly passed out and got taken to the ER where the on-call doctor properly diagnosed it as a nasty upper respiratory infection. Prescribed some antibiotics to clear it up and I was fine.
It was a rough way to learn that I had outgrown my childhood doctor but after that episode, I knew I had to get an adult doctor.

I was having issues with my stomach at the time. I went to the doctor and told him what was going on. He told me that I had IBS. Other than that, he told me to start taking fibercon and that would help. You know what my issue was? My diet. Once I started fixing my own food and stopped eating out so much, my issues cleared up. Mind if I ask what your diet was and is now-I’ve been diagnosed as having Chrons Most of my meals were at fast food places. If I did cook, it was like spaghetti and tacos. I very rarely ever eat fast food these days. Maybe once every few months? I eat a lot of vegetables, and home cooked meals. My wife and I make chicken or turkey for supper. I usually stick to Chex or Rice Krispies for cereal with almond milk. It's not just the food that I've changed as well. I use to drink pop all of the time. I have a pop once or twice a week, usually on the weekends. I have a 24 oz water bottle next to me at work. I usually have to fill it up during the day.

My ankle got stomped on during a game of 5-a-side. Swelled up like a balloon and caused me so much pain I lay awake all night until my wife made me go to Casualty. They examined it and told me it was just a sprain and advised me to go home, take painkillers and keep it elevated. Three painful days later, the swelling was much worse and I could barely walk. My wife took me back to the hospital - this time, they actually x-rayed my leg, told me it was broken and expressed disbelief that I'd left it so long to come in. When I told them that I'd already been there and that they had told me it was 'just a sprain' I was told that there was no way that they would have missed this and that I was either mistaken or just lying.....

Not so much about incompetence, more like dick headed-ness. Again with my daughter, she had the flu and my wife insisted she go to the emergency room. The doctor looked Kairi over and said “rest, fluids, and Tylenol “ but he went on and on and on and on and on about how other doctors were too quick to prescribe medicine for flus which was leading to super bugs and all that. Okay, but I had more important questions for him and I tried to get him back on topic, you know his patient, my kid. And he tried to Shush me for trying to bring the conversation back to the subject at hand, what mattered. I really have a low opinion of doctors anymore.

Back in October I got really sick, and my regular doctor wasn't available so I saw an RN. The RN told me I had a cold and that it would go away on its own. After not getting better in a few days, I go back, see my doctor and it turns I have a sinus infection AND bronchitis.

While we were evacuated for Hurricane Irma, my son came down with a 105+ fever and was lethargic. Power was still out in a lot of places so we had to find a hospital with power. Waited a long time to be seen and in the mean time they gave him Children’s Tylenol (for the low, low price of $44). After a couple hours we finally got taken to a room to see a doctor. Waited another hour for anyone to show up so the Tylenol is working and his fever dropped a bit. Doctor finally comes and says a 105 fever is not dangerous and it means his body is doing its job and we should only be worried if he was lethargic. (Remember...he was...and he was 5.) Told us to alternate Tylenol and Motrin and sent us on our way.
Then these boneheads charged my insurance a grand total of $1834 of which I owe $1200. GTFO.

Not to get political but the health system definitely needs a change. Just to be told to alternate Tylenol and Motrin is definitely not worth $1,834.

In 2016, I was told I had a sinus infection, which would have been my 3rd, in 3 months. One day, I woke up in so much pain, I couldn't open my right eye, without pressure, and crawled into the bathroom, honestly expecting my mom to find me dead in there. (I have a shunt on the right side, and thought it malfunctioned). We get to the ER, and after being there for 2 days, they did CT scans and MRI's. All I had was a severe migraine.

My mom got sat on by a cow back in 2001. Year later, she needed surgery on her back as a result. Doctor completely f***ed it up. Over fifteen years later and many more surgeries, and she is in constant pain, she's developed fibromyalgia, and she has difficulty doing just about anything because her back is so screwed up.

Being a Doctor this post has been a little tough for me, not in the sense of discovering that sometimes we are wrong, but it makes me think of the patients that I once treated and could not follow up to correct any bad decision

I seem to remember a dentist by the name of Isaac Yankem that apparently gave up his ractice just to follow the orders of a rather regal gentleman that referred to himself as a “King Lawler”..... hmm he doesn’t sound very professional at all.

Not quite, but the last time I was in when I was 21, I was wheeled into the operating theatre to discover they were expecting a six year old...
