Or, alternately, What do you use your iPad for, if you have one?
I usually like to have multiple purposes for buying something, especially if it's pretty pricey. I usually justify it in cases like "educating myself" or adding to my repertoire of skills believing that I'll make the money back eventually after bettering myself. Or save money in the long run from not using something else.
I mainly want to use it to study the ridiculous amount of notes I've converted digitally on icloud, and to read the old stuff I have on dropbox.
So, aside from that one specific use, and aside the actual size of the screen and battery life, is there any practical reason why I should drop several hundred dollars for a giant apple priced tablet that I can't pretty much do with my iphone or 2nd hand several year old Kindle fire (which i only use for books)?

I don't like them, simply because you're too on their leash. It's not like I have a bunch of illegal activities I need to get to or nothing, I just need a bit of creative control with my OS.
If you don't have that particular kink, they're fine. You can still YouTube and email and Netflix and all of it.

I don't think they are worth the money if you have both an iPhone and a Kindle.
I pretty much used mine (an OG iPad mini) for larger versions of apps I use on my phone, like browsing Reddit or watching HBO (for GOT, at least until the PS4 got an app)

For me I rather that pay almost double for what is a lesser product. Dropped 80 on a Droid tablet last year and it does so much more than most iPads. And didn't cost as much..
BTW I am a bit biased against Apple cause of the IIgs fiasco.
If you just want something for net,YouTube and simple stuff go for a Android tablet.

Saved up 3000 for a computer Apple swore they would support for years. And about 2 years after it was released they stopped supporting it. Where as I could have dropped 1000 and got a much more powerful IBM clone.

Go buy it and the salesman at the Apple store lied and told me only Apple joysticks worked on the IIgs. So I saved up 60 bucks. Got one and 6 months later it broke. Got a non Apple joystick for 20 and it lasted 8 years.

I bought an iPad 2017 model for $250 on Black Friday & I really like it. I have an iPhone though so I like how you can connect them together where all the stuff I had on my iPhone went onto my iPad too. I’m used to using ios as well. I mainly use it for browsing the web & watching YouTube videos. It probably comes down to your preference of ios or Android though.

I mainly use mine to read comic books on it. It's about the size of an actual comic page, and you can read them in the dark!

But it fits in my back pocket and has a huge amount of storage.Plus there is always Marvel Unlimited. Best Xmas gift I get every year.

I use mine for work. I have a case that has a built in bluetooth keyboard so I can type with it easily, and it's so much easier to carry around than a laptop. I take it with me when I travel too with some Netflix movies/shows downloaded onto it for the journey.
As my laptop and phone are both Apple products too (yeah, I know!) having the Apple tablet just makes things easier, as they link up so much. Keep the bluetooth on, and the devices will share pasteboards, passwords, documents etc without need for the internet.

i could never justify to myself spending so much more for an ipad, when a midrange android tablet will do everything I need. I don't get the appeal of Apple products.

No, mine got slow and old, turns out Apple did that deliberately.
I replaced it with a cheap fire which has been fine, although I'm a pretty light user.
I do miss the nicer screen and feel of the iPad but that ain't worth the extra.

I enjoy mine. Use it to read and watch YouTube or the Network. Use it to mirror the screen up to my AppleTV.
Worth it to me.

I wanted to get a tablet type thing... But I wanted to use it to see if I could transition from traditional medium arts to digital arts; apparently you need to get the fancy ones that are more an actual computer to do that stuff, and I'm too cheap to do that on a lark when I haven't even found a program that even feels natural yet (And is either cheap and or free, and trust me I have looked!).

They are premium feel devices that work very smoothly, even moreso the deeper you dive into the ecosystem of Apple apps and devices. Personally I'd rather spend the same on a full laptop, or splurge a little more and get something like the Surface. I also wish Windows Phone was still a viable thing. I LOVED that OS. If it had the same amount of apps as Android or iOS I would never have jumped ship.
