Versus? That's the best he can do? Really? I don't care if he had to pay ESPN to show the games, you keep them there, no matter what. If ESPN refused, you keep lowering your price until a major network picks you up. Seriously, Versus? ? It's even funnier when you consider that the NHL, a sport played indoors, is showing on a station formerly known as the OUTDOOR Life Network. I still consider it OLN, even though Comcast would love to see it as the next ESPN. It will never be a competitor to ESPN. I've said just about all I want to about the Pens/Isle of Capri thing; check out my rant in the Chat thread if you want. I just got finished writing a nasty letter to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Seriously, what the f*** were they thinking! Let's review: Isle of Capri offered to put down $290 million right away toward a new arena. PITG plans to contribute $7.5 million over the next THIRTY YEARS! You'd think the decision would be easy. I guess it wasn't. Now I just wanna forget about the whole thing and move on. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to.

Everyone was behind the Isle of Capri bid including the Mayor of Pittsburgh. Do they not take that kind of thing into consideration?

As I understand it, one of the objections people had to the Isle of Capri deal is that the casinos would've gone in the Hill District, and people were all uppity because that would've moved in on its precious theater district. Those elitist bastards should get off their high horse and look at the big picture, what good the Isle of Capri deal could've done for the city. PITG's casino will be located near the Carnegie Science Center and Heinz Field. According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the companies who lost the bid can appeal the decision. To win, they would have to prove that the Board's choice was irrational. Hmmm, that seems easy! I could provide a whole list of reasons why Isle of Capri should've gotten it! I'm gonna re-post my Homer Simpson quote, which I think sums up this mess perfectly: "When are people going to learn: Democracy...doesn't...work!"

Yeah, I heard the losing bids have 30 days to appeal. It just doesn't make sense. 290 million arena at NO COST, or 7.5 mil towards an arena per year for 30 years or whatever, plus team and taxpayer money.

I just thought of another Simpsons-related quote, which sums up my feelings about the PGCB perfectly. From the Sing the Blues album:
Look at all those idiots! Oh look at all those boobs! An office full of morons, a planet full of fools! Is it any wonder that I'm singing, singing the blues?!

Guys .. calm down here !! Everything is not lost. Both the Steelers & Pirates don't want the casino right down there on the North Shore beside the stadiums. The Rooney's (not so much Kevin McClatchy) carry a lot of weight around town. And never fear.. Gov. Rendell is "committed to keeping the Penguins in Pittsburgh" so I'm sure he'll do everything in his power to make it happen [/sarcasm] The mayor of our fair city and the chief financial officer (I think that's Onorato's title) have both said they have "Plan B" in the works. There was a lot of um... displeasure.. with the location of Isle of Capri's complex. It would have been located in the Hill District and those folks didn't want it there. I'm not sure I'd be happy walking out of a location there anyway because that is one of the slum type areas of the city and I'm sure muggings and robberies and carjackings would happen plenty.

Well, if there was a Casino, there would be added police presence. Anyway, I don't care... I don't live in Pittsburgh, I just like the hockey team.

As the resident WC Pens fan, I only have one word to say, and WC's filters won't allow me to say it.
I've had to hear it from Canadians on other boards who've laughed in Pens fans' faces for over a year now about how they're going to get our team, and now it looks like a pretty large likelyhood. I knew IoC wasn't getting the license when Balsillie pulled out of the purchase, when Bettman told him "I won't let you move the team."....but now, it's pretty much doom. We finally have a team that doesn't lose every night, and now it has to go away, while the Frozen North just points and laughs. Bettman and Mario are going to HAVE to let someone move them.
And that sucks.

It's cool, we can both be pens fans, because I'm a female, and I'm attractive. If you want to see pics of me, just search "HOT Coeds" on google image search. Make sure safe search is on, or you'll get bad pictures.

Want proof the NHL won't allow the team to be moved to Canada? Check this out. www.jetsowner.com/Sure, it's just one persons opinion, but I feel pretty safe betting that Betteman would allow the team to be moved to 5-6 US cities before they go to Canada
