I feel like I kind of missed the boat on this franchise, but my wife is a big fan, and super pumped, so I'm sure we'll be buying it day one.

I’m in the same boat except my sister played the first two and getting into the other stuff. She’ll be looking forward to it and I’ll at least watch when she plays it.

As a guy who never really drank the kool aid on this franchise I do still wonder if this one will be any good. From What I have heard the game became a faux-philosophical navel gazing mess though. Which is f***ing ridiculous when you remember its ostensibly a Disney game. Without getting a certain user upset, I can see your issue. The biggest problem is that in this game, Sora & the other original characters are the entire focus & the Disney stuff is just a background.

I was expecting magic Disney fun and instead I got a bunch of 5th grade philosophy and bad fan fiction quality stories that Goofy and Donald Duck got stapled onto. I mean I still think there's a lot of promise for this franchise but in like 15 years it hasn't really delivered yet. And I mean... If you need a flowchart to make even basic sense of a story you've kinda failed as a storyteller. Just my 2 cents though.

Not saying this as a warning, just as advisement.

JDog, please don't feel as if you need to steer around me. If you want to directly address me in a thread, feel free to do so.

I loved 1, I even beat it in a week staying home from school IIRC. But the second one confused the hell out of me and all the delaying of the third one has soured me on the franchise though the footage looks dope.

Just by playing the first two games, if you don't take the spinoffs to heart too much, most of the Org. XIII stuff is fine. They don't really dominate the narrative of 1 and 2 as much as the fanbase champions them, IMO. It's still mostly Disney content at the end of the day.
It's a silly story either way. I do think a lot of the original cast, Sora and co, etc. are cool, but most of my enjoyment is from me enjoying the gameplay and me being a Disney mark to begin with.
There. That's my opinion on Kingdom Hearts. I'm not as furious or upset as I've been made out to be, here.

I'll have to find a video to watch that tells the story before I play 3, I really don't have the time to play 1&2 again

If there's one game that was completely unnecessary for the Franchise it was Coded. An complete and utter filler, and not good filler like Goku and Piccolo learn to drive, bad filler like Bleach

New trailer reveals Monsters Inc level So from the looks of it, we have Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Tangled in this one. And that cloaked figure. I'm guessing.....Vanitas?

That's my opinion on Kingdom Hearts. I'm not as furious or upset as I've been made out to be, here. Here's the thing: you kind of have to take the spinoffs to heart, because everything is canon. This isn't like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, where pretty much every game exists in a bubble, and even when they take place in the same universe, there's a level of separation (like the first 3 Dragon Quests taking place in different time periods of the same world). With the exception of Birth By Sleep and X, every game in the series takes place in a very short period of time, and they all reference each other. Hell, 3D goes out of its way to try and sum up the plots of the games, and I'm still confused. To give examples from this trailer alone: -if you didn't play Birth By Sleep, you wouldn't know who Vanitas is, or this "Ventus" he refers to. -if you didn't play Chain of Memories or 358/2 Days, then the only knowledge you likely have of Marluxia is his optional boss battle and short biography in 2. And here's the big one, -if you didn't play Dream Drop Distance, you wouldn't know about the Nobodies getting their old bodies back, you wouldn't know what those technicolour Neopet-looking things are (they're called Dream Eaters, btw. They show up in worlds that have "fallen asleep", and I honestly don't want to even try and explain how that works), and you wouldn't be privy to Xehanort's entire overarching plan that he's been apparently setting up for the whole series. Simply put, it's hard for even die hard fans to follow the plot, let alone newcomers.

Yeah, watching someone review all the games back to back and detailing the story made me realise that I could just about understand almost anything else fiction wise in comparison because they throw so much stuff in so many places and ALL of it is important. But the gameplay looks fun and if my sister and her boyfriend can follow, like, 20% of it, it’ll be fine for me to watch.

Kingdom Hearts 1's plot was simple enough to follow and it makes sense since it was the one that had the least to do with the original plot. Chain of Memories was also ok for what it was, but the plot just goes completely off the rails with KH2. And it gets even more convoluted and disjointed with each prequel and interquel with increasingly ridiculous gibberish names. It's like Square Enix threw darts at a board to come up with some of these titles, completely with unnecessary punctuation.
Gameplay isn't even that fun in any of them. The first KH had some obnoxious level design, awful Gummi ship levels, and control quirks on stages like Atlantica, while KH2's battle system can be summed up as "mash X with the occasional Triangle press."

Day 1 purchase. Hell pre ordered purchase. The first two are in consideration for my favorite games ever. And I am loving the new theme, great work as always.

You think it will be out for Christmas? Or 2019? I need to get a PS4 at some point, but I don't want the PS5 to come out before this game.
