I am currently 31 and have been working on getting this done for a little while. I have a timeframe in mind, but am hesitant to say it because if I don’t meet it I’ll go back to this post and feel like crap later haha.
As it is I have made really good strides with my financial goals in the last few years. I haven’t met some, but they are very ambitious and even if I fall short of some I should set my self up pretty well for later in life.
As it is I could probably swing a condo now, but would much prefer a stand alone property with three bedrooms or so. I have a few towns I am considering and have one in particular at the top of my list. The biggest thing holding me back is the high property value in Massachusetts!

Gah, threads like this make me feel like crap about myself. I turn 30 next month and I still rent an apartment, and at the present time, there's just no way I could afford a home.

I’m older than you and am renting a studio...until the end of the month. After that I will be back to renting a room (well technically two), but saving $400 a month. That will go straight toward my two goals of retiring savings and buying a house. It might still take some time, but now that it’s a clear goal I have a timetable for I have complete confidence I will accomplish it. I’m not going to lie. Buying property early is always better (as long as it is a responsible and well researched investment). Yet, while we can’t change the past, we can work toward the future.

We had been saving up,and both of us working piles of overtime, for almost 6 years. Those months of working 55 hours a week were worth it.

Oh man I wish I could go back to just working 55 hours a week, but that’s a thread for another time

It's difficult to save for a home and even harder to maintain it, with bills and upgrades and upkeep. I'm fortunate and grateful and lucky i was able to buy one in the first place.

Bought my house in 2000 when I was 35.
Paid it off in just under 14 years

And it gives you way more freedom both physically in terms of moving homes and financially as you're not tied into a mortgage. There are advantages to home owning too but for me the advantages of renting far outweigh them.

I'm 35 and never have. I've lived in/rented apartments all my life and have no reason to change that.
