Not one person at my showing. I think I heard someone say that’s it? As in I stayed through all the credits just for that? Yeah mine too. Outside of hardcores no one knows who she is. In fact, I thought she was a he and had to look her up. Carol's popular enough amongst comic readers, but this movie isn't making three quarters of a billion dollars in four days because of just comic book readers. Hell, there's plenty of people who do think that the dusted heroes are gone for good, never mind having any idea what Carol's symbol means.

I don't think I can fully judge this until I see the second part, but loved it for what it was.
I am most impressed with what they did with Thanos. Incredible work by the writers, directors and Josh Brolin.

I heard some murmurs from folks in the crowd at my showing, saying "I hope they make another one."

So finally watched it. Initial thoughts are that the movie was mostly great but I'm definitely one of those who feels the ending is completely undermined by a severe case of "only a moron would believe any of these characters are actually dead syndrome. Yeah marvel you're really gonna kill off Spiderman I really believe that . Took me out of the movie too much. I honestly don't think you're supposed to buy into the disintegration deaths. I think the drama comes from "How do we get them back?". Obviously Black Panther, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man aren't dead and I don't think Marvel expected anyone to think it. Yeah actually now that I thought about it more I'm ok with it actually. It definitely works at hooking me for the second half of the story I just really wish it would a been Iron Man, Cap and Thor that died because I would feel a bit more doubtful that way. Once again Marvel hits it out of the park. Oh yeah and thank God they changed Thanos' motive because I always thought the lovesick puppy about Death thing always made him come off leas like an evil genius and more like a whiny manchild.

They kinda set up a perfect open door for a Secret Wars spin-off with the disintegration. Don’t worry, I know that’s not where they’re going with it. But if they were going to do it...

Can’t remember if it was brought up or not, but what instead of killing everyone, the Soul Stone transported them to Soul World and it’s only a matter of finding a way to release them?

In fact, I thought she was a he and had to look her up. Literally every row in a full theater in the middle of nowhere at a 3:00 matinee that was 3/4 full was like, “Ohhh, here comes Captain Marvel.” Anyone who says no one knows Captain Marvel is really cherry-picking by not recognizing how many of these previous MCU films do the exact same thing with other characters during the after-credits. Not pretending all casuals know, but it’s equally skewed to pick her out and not look at the other films that same way. Just seems like negativity for negativity’s sake. Like other instances, this is just giving the audience, whether they know or don’t know who she is, a heads up that something big is out there we don’t know about or haven’t seen yet. It’s anticipation either way.

It's kind of a hilarious slap in the face to Agents of SHIELD that Fury was doing seemingly what he was always doing with Hill out of nowhere.

Apparently "his thing" is doing Director of SHIELD stuff because Fury was doing exactly what he was doing prior to Winter Soldier.

Maybe he's only got special contact to Carol (hence the fancy pager thing).

With the Captain Marvel thing, it's gonna depend what sorta demographic is more in your theater. If they're comics fans, or at least MCU enough fans that keep track of what movies are slated to happen---then yeah, they're gonna know.
A whole lot more that are just casual fans that like the movies (this thing has done a quarter billion over a weekend) are NOT gonna know even who she is, much less what her symbol means immediately. They'll ask people who know or Google it, but at first most are not gonna know who she is.

At the very least, there's gonna be one person in the theater per screening who whispers "oh, that's Captain Marvel" as soon as her symbol pops up on screen.

With my crowd it wasn’t that they didn’t know who it was supposed to represent (I’m guessing they didn’t) but that they didn’t seem to care and didn’t think it was worth sitting through all the credits for a logo.

Right. Of course then the conversation that's gonna have to happen at one point where they have to clarify which Captain Marvel. No not that one. No that one. No not that one. No not...
Can we also get Genis? Please?

No offense to Carol, but the only Captain Marvel I ever cared about was Mar-Vell.

On another topic, a few people at my screening tonight gasped at the dusting deaths, gradually getting louder with each character added to the bodycount.

Apparently Captain Marvel is in some of the cartoons now?
Which I didn't know until I was trying to explain who she was to my kids and both of them knew exactly who she was.

They've been giving her a big push since she became Captain Marvel, which means loads of appearances in video games, toys, and cartoons.
