My friend went by himself tonight and left before the main event.
can't say I blame him, it wasn't a very good show
Ring of Honor/NJPW “War of the Worlds 2018: Toronto”
Friday May 11th, 2018
From the Ted Reeve Center in Toronto, Ontario
For the IWGP United States Championship
Punishment vs. Jay White (champion)
So Jay White goes to Japan and now all of a sudden people start marking out hard for him? Strange, I saw him at a bunch of shows the last couple of years wrestling to crickets. This match was sadly not very good. It was obvious from the onset that Punishment Martinez wasn’t going to win but they just weren’t clicking tonight. Adam Page came out and attacked Martinez costing him the match, which I think is an angle they’ve been playing up at shows lately.
Winner: Jay White
Bully Ray comes out and does his “I hate the new generation and its fans shtick”. It was good to boo him. At one point he went off on people throwing streamers so of course that got everyone throwing them. I threw one and it hit him right in the head. Then he called for a match.
Bully Ray vs. Cheeseburger
I don’t even remember if Cheeseburger got any offence in during this match other than one shot to Bully Rays nuts. Bully eventually got his chain and started hitting Cheeseburger with it.
Winner: Cheeseburger via disqualification
Afterwards Bully continued to beat up on Cheeseburger before ripping up the floor mats and teasing Powerbombing him through the timekeeper’s tables. The crowd got pretty excited for that so he instead just dropped Cheeseburger on the floor and walked away.
The Beer City Bruiser vs. Naito
This was an okay match but Naito looked like he was still suffering badly from jet lag. He looked half asleep for most of it. The Beer City Bruiser did his best to carry the match.
Winner: Naito
Super Smash Bros. vs. the Young Bucks
This was a good match. Probably the best match of the show. The Young Bucks weren’t their usual gimmicky, meme-y selves and actually wrestled a good competitive match, which is something I wish they’d do more often. The teams had good chemistry.
Winners: the Young Bucks
After the match was over the Briscoes rushed the ring and took everybody out, focusing mainly on the Young Bucks.
[Intermission]
Xandra Bale & Alexia Nicole vs. Jenny Rose & Tenille Dashwood
This was a dark match during intermission. The outcome was pretty obvious from the beginning. I’ve seen Xandra Bale before on the Ontario Indies and she’s pretty good. Alexia Nicole was not very good. The look on Tenille Dashwoods face is one of someone who really didn’t think she’d be in this place at this point of her life. She didn’t look happy.
Winners: Jenny Rose & Tenille Dashwood
SoCal Uncensored vs. CHAOS (Roppongi 3K and Rocky Romero)
At the beginning of this match Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian were getting into it with a fan and Daniels said something along the lines of “I’m gonna rip your head off and f*** your wife on your dead body”. That got everyone around us laughing. We spent most of the match waiting for more back-and-forth between them and there was a little. The match wasn’t bad but the crowd interaction was way better.
Winners: SoCal Uncensored
For the Ring of Honor World Television Championship
Silas Young (champion) vs. Adam Page
Right at the start of this match Punishment Martinez came out and got retribution for Adam Pages earlier attack and took him out. As Page was being carried out to the back Silas demanded the referee start counting so he could be crowned the winner. Page made his way back to the ring and I figured since Silas gets jobbed out so much in Ring of Honor that he was probably going to end up losing. They had a decent match after that but had to play off the injuries Page had sustained.
Winner: Silas Young
Cody w/Bernard the Business Bear vs. Jushin “Thunder” Liger
This wasn’t a bad match. The crowd finally woke up for it after sleeping since the intermission. The only bad thing was that stupid bear was standing right in front of us for most of the match and we couldn’t see a damn thing.
Winner: Cody
Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL, Sanada and Hiromu Takahashi) w/Bushi and Darryl Jr. vs. Kenny King, Jay Lethal & Colt Cabana
I really didn’t like this match. I don’t like the Los Ingobernables de Japon. The most “over” member of the group is a f***ing stuffed cat. And when the guys aren’t in the ring during tag matches they stand on the floor rather than the ring apron. I guess that’s their gimmick or something but I spent most of this match looking around EVIL trying to see the ring. Jay Lethal carried the match as best as he could but even he can only do so much.
Winners: Los Ingobernables de Japon
After the match Naito joined Los Ingobernables de Japon and they did a bunch of their catch phrases but I don’t follow NJPW so I have no idea what they were saying.

Dark Match
The Boys vs. the Dawgs
This was a typical Dawgs comedy match that I think I’ve seen on every show since September. They did do a few newer bits and they were fun. Biggest shock is that they won. I can’t say if I’ve ever seen that.
Winners: the Dawgs

This really wasn’t a very good show tonight. Only the Young Bucks verses Super Smash Bros. and the Cody verses Jushin “Thunder” Liger matches felt like the competitors were clicking. All the NJPW guys seemed like they were suffering from the travel. And the Silas Young verses Adam Page match wasn’t as good as it could’ve been because they had to sell the attack by Punishment Martinez. The funnest parts tonight were booing Bully Ray and watching Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian yell at that one guy. The best matches were the ones I just said were working.
I always say after these Ring of Honor/NJPW shows that I’d rather just see a straight up Ring of Honor show. Tonight was no different. But there were a lot of guys absent tonight. Dalton Castle’s out with an injury, Marty Scurll and the Kingdom just weren’t there. The Briscoes only did a run-in. And in my opinion the talent NJPW sent over this year just wasn’t exciting.
This main event was changed at the last minute due to Dalton Castle having to take time off because of injuries. It was supposed to be a four-man match between Los Ingobernables de Japon taking on Dalton Castle, Jay Lethal, Kenny King and Flip Gordon. Colt Cabana was added in Dalton Castles place but I have no idea where Flip Gordon was. So instead Bushi just stood around outside the ring and I had to look around him for a lot of the match too.
We still had fun but it was probably the worst Ring of Honor show I’ve seen. It wasn’t just me though. The crowd was f***ing dead. I heard a lot of conversations between people walking out who weren’t happy with the main event.
