I didn't see it mentioned, but what about the Chris Dickinson/Kimber Lee stuff in Beyond Wrestling?
Personally, I think something like that could work. Though, I would have to say... I wouldn't exactly want to see it.

I hope so. The Jarrett/Chyna feud was one of my all-time favorites.

Taya was mentioned and her match with Cage in season 2 was amazing.

I actually have a wresting diary where that's been going for a year and a half between Luke Harper (who got cleaned up and rich thanks to Alexa Bliss but keeps the look despite dropping her years ago) and Asuka. I've had a singles match, Street Fight, Last Man Standing, Steel Cage, and I Quit Matches. They're tied 2-2 and the basis has been that Asuka entered into the Rumble Royale (lol copyrights) and eliminated Luke. Now it's a matter of respect between the two, both for each other and for women's wrestling.
My goal is to elevated Asuka to the "men's" division, so to speak, by having her wrestle like everyone else.

A new company in Britain, Riptide Wrestling has intergender stuff all over the place.
Moustache Mountain v Jordan Devlin and Session Moth Martina
Jinny v Jmimmy Havoc, no DQ.
Jinny was also in Anarchy Pro's Masters of Brutality tournament, beat Chris Ridgeway in a no DQ match, haven't seen how she did in round 2.

I don't have any problem with intergender wrestling, so I'd actually like to see something like what the OP described.
As long as it's treated like a serious competition between two wrestlers, and not goofy borderline-fetish bullshit, I think these kind of matches can be very entertaining. I really enjoyed the aforementioned Nicole Matthews vs. Bishop, for example.

It wasn't under the storyline parameters that you listed, but Gregory Iron and Veda Scott had a pretty vicious feud in AIW. Even cumulated in a steel cage match where both of them got busted open. It wasn't for a title challenge, it was more storyline born.

Southern Underground Pro had one between Kevin Ku and Angelus Layne not too long ago. Started with Layne breaking Ku's neck (accidentally, as can happen), before that went into an angle where she hounded Ku for a show or two before leading to a Last Person (One?) Standing match that Ku won.
It worked, because she gave as good as she got.
Note: I might be missing a couple of details, this was a little bit ago.

a Last Person (One?) Standing match Last Person Standing or, in WWE, Last Star Standing, which sounds cooler.

According to Urban Dictionary, the "session" part refers to a makeout session (or more), so a "session moth" is someone who flits from session to session like a moth between lights. It fits her gimmick of being very promiscuous.

It’s a minor thing but Session Moth is Irish.
Well, minor thing to Americans but considering potential political stuff between the UK and Ireland right now (that WON’T be discussed here), it’s slightly important to mention.

Chris Brookes vs. Nixon Newell got violent quite a lot, their last match involved thumbtacks and stapleguns.
